  1. No, the parasites are often the guys that run the open mic nights. They go into a local venue that has had live music on for years and offer to run nights for a third (or less) of the usual fee. For a time they make it work, taking half of the money for their ‘expenses’ and giving out a tenner here or there to cover ‘fuel for the featured artist’. After three or four months they’ve exhausted every connection they have locally, the landlord calls time on it and the open mic guy moves on to do the same in another local venue. However, the landlord now knows he can get an evening’s entertainment for a fraction of the prior cost so lowers what he is willing to pay accordingly. Local music scene dries up. Cue open mic guy ranting on social media that nobody will pay for live music anymore when nobody will book him and his band. Seen it a few too many times now.

Did the price have any additional charges? The website suggests customs fees are included.

I am very interested in getting one to set up a little rig to replace my rumble 40.

Yes, all included. It was £106 for the cab and £20 for shipping and tax. Took a little longer than predicted to arrive and a few days to dispatch (had to chase a little), but still well worth it and great value.

  3. My OR110 arrived on Wednesday, what a cracking little cab! Partnered with my Warwick Gnome I have the ultimate in grab and go rigs. There’s a decent enough punch and volume level for my fortunately sympathetic drummer too.

I’m sure there are better sounding rigs, but I doubt it for this price point and purpose. Really impressed.

Thanks for the heads-up OP, I wouldn’t have found this if it wasn’t for your thread.

Ive contacted this type of seller in the past. To ask if they have made a mistake in pricing. The listing is usualy taken down quite fast.

I remember having an ‘interesting’ to do with a well known London based seller. Had a fender Tele with a strat neck that was overpriced and he claimed all original and ‘opened box never used’. Called him out on it and he started trying to sell it to me, was hilarious. There are some utter fools about.

  5. My current pet hate is the use of mods/‘upgrades’ as a reason to uncharge on a second hand guitar or bass ‘because it owes me X amount’.

I’ve never seen a change to original spec as a significant problem (unless it’s the form of sausage fingered non-reversible mod found on eBay), a swap of pickups or pots really isn’t that big a deal. However, there is definitely a current fad of trying to charge closer to the price of a new one because a few changes have been made. Post-covid inflation of secondhand instruments has severely impinged the revolving door of GAS.

I would say this wouldn’t I, but Walnutglo with check binding just looks great.

I know it makes me a heretic, but I also like the combination of the maple neck with oiled walnut body that Rickenbacker have done in recent years.

My latest acquisition; a Fender Japan PB70. I've had this for about 3 weeks now, bought from @lapolpora from the Marketplace. The colour caused much discussion in the sale thread, and I can confirm that it looks absolutely nothing like the pictures below 😄 It's probably Sonic Blue but does look Daphne Blue at times. I stuck on a set of Gotoh lollipop tuners I had spare and some Dunlop flats and it plays and sounds fantastic. I really need to get the Patio Magic out.

These are lovely basses. I got the orange one that was doing the rounds recently; love the neck on it, weight is just right, balanced perfectly. Please excuse the kids toys and general chaos! :)D03083D4-4BC4-4F31-B511-CF14930F0F0F.thumb.jpeg.96718b6bc1f4025dca10ac0071ea0d75.jpeg

    Welcome aboard! :crigon_04:

Bad luck on the injury. Basses are generally heavier and longer than guitars, it might be worth you checking out a couple of the excellent resources on how to avoid injury when playing bass. Scotts Bass Lessons and StudyBass in particular are good.

You wouldn't want to make things any worse.

Thanks Richard, I’ll definitely look into both of those. anything that makes the playing experience easier is a win.

I feel like I’ve over-egged the pudding here so must own up, it’s just some carpal tunnel after a couple of falls. Nothing major and perhaps ‘injury’ is the wrong term? I am sure it just reflects my middle-age and not healing up the way I did when I was a kid. 🙂

What I’ve found is I’m more sensitive to neck shape and am very aware of it when a neck doesn’t work for me. In the past I’d have soldiered on, now I just put that guitar aside and play the one that doesn’t give me wrist ache.
