I used to love their Doncaster store. Had nothing but good service, and good deals. That was some time ago now, as the Doncaster store is long gone. I guess times change, and staff change..........

Cheers Clarky
Still loving the look of that Les Paul bass -
Thanks Chaps
The radius of the board doesn't put me off too much. I have a Squier Jazz, that has quite a heavily radius on the board, and that chokes quite easily when bending a string.
Never realised that the CIJ versions were heavier. The main thing that puts me off the Jap basses is the resale value seems to be pretty poor, considering that the retail on a new one seems to be around £1K now. A well looked after MIA seems to hold it's value really well, and I keep all my gear minty mint I'm not doubting the build quality of the CIJ, I've heard nothing but positive comments about them -
Yeah, there does seem to be a real buzz with the vintage Fender thang at the moment
Main thing that concerns me is build quality. Don't want to end up with a dog!!
As my user name suggests, I really dig anything with an old skool vibe to it. Have to admit, to be different, I am also considering saving the pennies for a Zon. Don't see many of those about! The build quality of Zon's seems to be impeccable, which really interests me
Then again, there's something uber cool about a '70's Jazz, with the ash trays, and big block markers I really like the feel of Jazz necks as well. -
FWIW, I had the exact same head, and the matching 4X12, and 2X15 V-Type cabs. The whole rig, in mint condition, sold on ebay for just shy of £700

Thanks for the input guys

Cheers Dude
Mostly thinking of the MIA, with a Rosewood board -
Can't seem to quite shift the GAS for the '75 reissue Jazz. Are they any good? Most interested in build quality above anything else
Cheers,
My favourite has to be Electromusic in Doncaster; no pushy salesmen that are earning commission on a specific brand, nice relaxed atmosphere, and they price match. What more could you want? I buy a lot of gear there, and they've always looked after me. Bought a Markbass combo there last weekend, and they knocked almost £200 off.
Worst has to be Music Ground in Leeds. Never before have arrogant attitudes, rude staff and ridiculous prices come together to form such a farce of a business.
+1 For Electro. Dave has always looked after me well, and has recently done me some excellent deals
It saddens me to hear about Music Ground. I used to be fairly regular in their Doncaster store, and they were always a good bunch of lads to me. Done me a really good deal on my 4001 Never been to their other stores though. -
Will also consider trading up, with cash your way.......WHY??
4 stringers only though -
Cheers
Unfortunately the EB2 is not for sale Love the ol' girl too much
There are some better pictures of her in the "Gibson Porn" thread. -
Sounds like you have got a bargain

Excellent thread, with some really good posts chaps
I too have some really expensive basses......and at the moment, I mostly seem to play my Squier Affinity Jazz bass, with the EMG J-Set in it! There's just nothing wrong with it, other than the pups were a bit weak. Because it's a "cheapy" I don't worry so much about chucking it in a gig bag, carrying it in the boot of the car, using it at band practice, etc. All in all, it really is a cracking little work horse of a bass. It does get looked after, and maintained though -

For me, it's my Rickenbacker 4001, and my Gibson EB2.
The Ric has a bit of a story behind it. short version, I was skint, miserable, starving hungry....... But done the sensible thing, and managed to come out of it with a little bit of money in my back pocket, although I had pretty much lost everything Once I had settled into my new home, I still had said money, so I decided to really treat myself, and hunt down a Ric! Never looked back
No real story to the EB2, just love the old thing -
You won't be dissapointed
Mine was beautifully built and finished, and was a joy to play -
A few years back, with my old band, after one song, I put my bass down, knelt down in front of the guitarist, and started to pretend to clean up, with an imaginary dust pan and brush.........."What ya doing"? "Clearing up all those notes you dropped"!! -
Will still consider a trade on the following 4 stringers for this custom built beauty;
Rickenbacker 4001 or 4003
Gibson (must be a long scale version)
Fender Jazz (preferably 70's block marker type)
Something retro, and interesting
The Stingray really is as new -
The bass, the stance, it all says one thing................ROCK!!
PS, what has the guitarist spotted on the ceiling? -
Spinynorman, that looks in really good condition
Shaggy, cheers for the tips. I have been using short scale, light guage Roto's on mine. I'll try messing about with the amp EQ a bit more, and see what happens. She really does have a super fast neck, despite the high action. Perhaps some heavier guage DR's will tighten the sound up a bit?
We're really getting a tasty display of Gibbo's in this thread now, cheers Chaps -
OOH Shaggy.......Now that's a gorgeous collection '65 Thunderbird IV
Interesting about the tone of the EB2's. I would describe mine as muddy.......More like an extremely dense bog that's been trampled by Mammoths! Does sound quite good with the baritone circuit switched off -
the only thing that came close was a Sandberg Cali JJ but even that had the worst setup I've ever seen on a Sandy.
I had a go on that Sandberg a while back, and you are right about the set up. If you want a real laugh, try playing they black Burns Bison in there.....It has issues!
Have a bump on me
