  1. +1 for Stuart Morrow, Mark Bedford, Paul Simonon, Frank Bello & Jah Wobble.

I'll throw another Brit in as well, Andy Pyle, he has played with (not a complete list) Juicy Lucy, Savoy Brown, Blodwyn Pig, Wishbone Ash, The Kinks, Rod Stewart, Gary Moore (Midnight Blues Band) and a few others.

A very solid, unassuming, but extremely talented player.

  2. For me it was slowly learning to hate the classical guitar which I started at around 10. Being told to go and practice really doesn’t fill you with enthusiasm. I went through the motions for another 6 years or so and a friend said that they needed a bass player.

I naively thought “how hard can it be, it’s only got 4 string ffs!” god I’ll never make that mistake again.

I stuck with it from there, the biggest influences on my playing were/are in no particular order Steve Harris, Duck Dunn and Andy Pyle.

Starting again, well about 6 months ago, I never stopped listening to music just trying to play it and damn has it ever got more complicated!

The guy at WAL might have been Stuart Monks?

    Hi Si,

I had a think about that last night, I'm pretty sure his name was Carl, he lived in Chesham.

Smaller than a washing machine, but about twice the weight :)

  6. Hi Mark or Smashie here,

I’ve been lurking for a while and I thought I’d better join in.

I’ve been playing on and off for the last 22 years (mainly off for the last 10!). Usual stuff work, band members moving away and replacements being tossers (or it could have been me, not sure on that), wife etc.

Starting to play again and I’ve realised that I shouldn’t have stopped, I know what to do but the fingers can’t seem to manage it!

Bass wise nowt special, an absolute peach of a squire p-bass with a neck that was taken down to more jazz proportions by a nice guy from WAL basses. Sorry I don’t remember his name.

An absolutely unique H|H B100 combo, it really is a one off and I’ve never heard another one like it. Oh and a Selmer treble and Bass MK11 that’s waiting to go off and get some work done on it. I need a cab for that which is how I found this forum looking for plans.

    Cheers,

    Mark
