1. Thanks, I just emailed them to enquire and will report back. I rather like the 'natural' model from Rondo and have asked if they can get hold of that - http://www.rondomusic.com/product7692.html

Got a ray you can measure centre of pickup to 12th fret so I can check?
From 12th fret to centreline of Ray pup is 344mm, from nut is 776mm (+432mm). Measurement to neck coil is 332mm and bridge coil is 356mm. This is for an SR5 but SR4 should be the same.

    Centreline of a 60s J bridge pup is 367mm from 12th fret.

  3. The Stingray in the pic above isn't quite to scale. When it is the bridge coil of the MM is about 10mm closer to the neck than the J 60s bridge position. I have a spreadsheet of pickup positions for various basses (something I did for input to build/mod projects). All measured from the 12th fret which is a good fixed point for comparison. I can't seem to attach it here but if anyone wants a copy just drop me a pm with your email.

  4. A Stingray HS also doesn't quite do the Jazz thing. The S pickup is noticeably closer to the neck than a J and the bridge coil of the MM (for a coil split) is slightly north of a 60s J.

Clover aperion with the Delano hybrid system?
As with most J/MM style basses the MM pickup is a lot closer to the bridge than the Stingray sweet spot. The MM pup simply doesn't have the heft and grunt of an SR in that position. Pic below for comparison.

  6. The standard Fender vintage slot head saddle screw is 1/2" long - http://www.allparts....6-32-x-1-2-inch

If you don't mind swapping them out for hex/allen key screws then you can buy 1/2" and shorter 3/8 grub screws of the correct spec (UNC 6-32) here - http://www.modelfixi..._screws.htm (Click on UNC Grub Screws)

  7. Use a multimeter to measure the voltage across the two points marked by the white arrows in the attached pic. If it's all wired correctly, then with the jack unplugged there should be no reading (ie. open circuit). With the jack plugged in it should read +9v (or thereabouts). If you're getting a reading with the jack unplugged then the earth wire is the culprit so try and trace it back to find the fault.

Hi, i don't think there is, it's a new pre amp they have put in on the lights, can't seem to find too much about it. It is very similar to the older one but without the mid switches installed

I contacted Xotic to ask about the missing freq selector switches on the lightweight and they said they could add them if requested (when ordering new). Which suggests that there might be some way of retrofitting the freq switches with help from Xotic tech support if required.

  9. You can change only one or both, up to you. In standard config, two 250k pots present a combined load of 125k to the pickups. By swapping in one 500k pot the load will increase to 166k. By swapping both pots to 500k the load changes to 250k. The higher the load the brighter the tone. Experiment and see what you prefer. I've tried all combinations including a no-load pot (too bright for me). In the end I went back to 250k pots as I found I preferred the more vintage vibe. It's all down to personal preference and what works for you in a playing context.
