1.
At the suggestion of OutToPlayJazz I got one of these Archer double basses for PLux, we had it strung with Thomastiks and set up properly, which bumped the price up a little over the 1000, but the result soudns amazing. Everyone who has heard it who knows double basses (like Plux's teacher) has been seriously impressed with it, its just a huge sounding bass. Highly recommended by me then Topics here and here
I am in LOVE with that bass! just read your other topic and was really interesting. just bought a 60s czech bass to start with, but will most lightly invest in one in the new year. thanks!!

  3.
One's called 'Harley Benton' and the other's called 'Palatino' AFAIK, they're made in the same factory, to be sold as own brand. I suppose there could be some specification differences and QC variances to reflect different price points.
So what is the differance in spec then?
  4.
Go to the EUB forum on Talkbass - they have a sticky called 'the definitive Palatino modification thread'. There's a ton of big and small mods you can do to improve the sound and playability.
so whats the difference in the Palatino EUB and the Harley Benton EUB?
  5.
played a pallatino a while ago...not good...go with stagg....
Why was the stagg a better bass then? I much prefer the looks on the palatino, but is that all its got going for it, or can it made in to a gooood EUB? Pete

  10. Hey guys, i have been told by my partner to get ride of some of my basses, but i would like a double or upright bass. So anyone like to trade? I dont mind putting a bit or cash my end. About the bass, its an Ibanez SR886 6-string bass, in cherry red, serial number dates the bass at 1991. Very good condition, little ding in the back of the neck, active eq, new jack input, nearly new strings, very good intanation, great action. It plays beautiful! Let me know if your interested. You can phone or trxt me on 07985642553 if you like. Cheers. Pete. XD

  13.
Just checking - we did have someone who posted a couple of weeks ago with a similar issue and he was leaving his bass plugged in all the time. In that case I'd check that there's nothing obvious shorting out the battery connection on the jack plug when there's no jack plugged in. Failing that take it to a decent guitar tech to have it looked at.
Naa wasnt me, did it once, never again, turned up to a audition with a dead bass, Oops Opened it up, nothing looking out of order, hmm...
  14. hey guys, my ibanez sr886 is eating batts, any suggestions on what it could be? its also quite when a new bat is put in, but dyes out to the point it cant be used within a set. should i just rip all the elecs out a fit new ones? what can i dooo? Thanks
  15.
The best 6 strings in my views is one with one less string, the high C in this case. I could never get on with that so it's only fivers and 4's for me.
i once met a guy that gigged with two basses, one tuned EADG and the other ADGC, cos he didnt like the 5 or 6 string basses. so can see your point. but theres something about 6 string basses i just loooove! XD
  16. hey guys, im putting a new preamp in my ibanez sr886. any suggestions on what one to use? thanks XD

  18.
Thanks to this thread you now know every single bass is the best 6 string bass! So basically take your pick. Shep
haha so ture, not really stuck for choise ey. i been looking at the Ibanez sr706 and cant find them for sale, how come you cant get them in the uk i wonder then? looking at putting new pickups and wireing in my 886 as well, cant wait for that! but im suprised no one has mentioned the 6 string steve harris fender jazz bass, has anyone played/seen/heard this bass? although, i couldnt bring myself to buy one as its a sig seres and just couldnt buy someone elses bass lol. also suprised to hear no one mention warwick, never played one myself, only a 4 string, all i know is they seem to be over priced. i had a peavey grind 6! loved it, was my very 1st 6 string bass, but wouldnt buy one again, just prefer the 34" scale now and couldnt bring my self to buy thesame bass twice. pete XD
