  1. I think you could be right.... I have been tweaking my setup today and I'm a lot happier with how everything is sounding, particularly through a dirt pedal.
  2. I have actually and it's made a huge difference. It had ancient flatwounds on there. Still curious about the geezers though
  3. Bit of growl I guess?
  4. I hear these two are quite similar - my new classic vibe has SDs, but I'm just wondering were if it'd be worth me upgrading to the Gzrs for recording heavy rock/proto heavy metal tones, or should I save my money and stick to the SPB1s? Apparently the only difference between these and the Gzrs is that the latter has a bit more of an upper mid push....just wondering if I can just tweak the amp/od pedal EQ, or would it not be the same?
  5. I went for the classic vibe in the end ... Both great basses but the neck is lovely on the CV. It's very subtle but I prefer the sound and feel of a rosewood FB
  6. I have an opportunity to pick up a first gen classic vibe 60s p bass locally for more or less the same price as a sire p5/R. Which one should I shoot for?
  7. Edit: thank you very much for your suggestions. I'm going to pick up either a squire or Sire for now but will consider these suggestions for my second bass Can anyone recommend some budget (3-400£ used) Precision or PJ basses that are similar to either the classic vibe or Sire line of basses? I am currently waiting for either a sire P5R, P7 or an old classic vibe to come up at a reasonable price but in the meantime would like to explore other options that are of similar quality within that price range
  8. I used to own a squire classic vibe, the 60s version in fiesta red that is well regarded. I later switched to a 50s p bass from the same line - a great guitar, but the neck is like a baseball bat. I'm just wondering which of the sire basses will give me a similar neck profile to the CV 60s fender p bass? That is, more on the shallow end in terms of neck thickness (depth, not width), particularly at the nut. I want to try a sire over a CV as I have heard goods things about them
  9. You're meant to change them?
  10. Thanks for the suggestion. Have you tried it? Does it growl? 🐺
  11. The stock pickup on my classic vibe p bass is nice but I was wondering if anyone can recommend a different single coil that has a bit more bite in the upper mids and that that growls nice, not unlike the Geezer pup, but in single coil format? The stock one sounds a bit mellow to my ears, even after adjusting distance from the strings, and also picking near the bridge. I'd like to be able to play with fingers near the neck and still have it cut through. I use my bass for anything from Sabbath to ambient music ha... So not looking for anything too hot. 'Vintage Hot' I'd say.
  12. The emperor sold me his Cali76 and everything went smoothly.
  13. My current recording set up is a Hudson sidecar and Cali76 (looking for a bass version if anyone's selling) direct in to a focusrite with the instrument level switch on. I'm using torpedo cab in my daw. I do like the way it sounds but have no frame of reference with other bass setups (I'm primarily a guitar player) Would it be an improvement acquiring a proper bass preamp, or do overdrive pedals pretty much do the same job? I'm under the impression that they both serve the same purpose, just under different names.
