  1. Hi- I'm after a lightweight cab solution for smallish pub/club type gigs. Thinking of maybe a couple of Ashdown RM112T's. Can any users comment on how they get on with them? I have to say they seem a bit flimsy to me - I know this may well go with the territory for lightweights, but couldn't stand anything rattly...😀

    Amp is an Ashdown RM500...

Do feel free to suggest better alternatives if you like.

An interesting page https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/engineering/superglue  I did not know that CA glue bonding is inhibited by acidic hardwoods e.g. oak nor that they are thermoplastic in nature and thus joints will creep over time when subjected to stresses significantly below the brittle failure stress or yield stress.   You may be (or may not be) surprised to know that that cheese and superglue will show the same creep behaviour with aging time (I spent 3 years stretching thermoplastics in my ill gotten youth).

I think it's important not to confuse the cheap superglue you buy from the newsagents with high spec products like Loctite 401, which is superb for bonding clean breaks in all wood species I've tried it on,  including tropical hardwoods like pernambuco. Most bow makers/repairers I know have it in their toolbox.

Yeah I'm aware he's supposed to be some legendary guitarist. But everything I've seen him do with Toya over the past couple of years is utter garbage. I've seen better playing by teens in their bedrooms.

Don't be silly. Fripp is a fantastic musician. The videos are just light-hearted fooling around.

  4. Hi

wondering if someone could guide me through the relative pros/cons of Hx effects vs Hx stomp vs pod go?

    apologies if old hat!

    cheers

I have an antiqued cello.  The antiquing was done around 1900 when they made it in a French factory.  The antiquing is quite different from the real damage ( my grandad fixing it with a nail, me falling down the stairs with it in 1979 etc etc).  Still a nice instrument.

I think the origin of the sunburst guitar finish was to emulate the appearance of such instruments.

I saw that ad yesterday for the guitar and I just thought 'yuk'. I'll be honest, I don't see the point in 'relicing' - you get it with string instruments like violins as well, where it is described as 'antiqued'. I don't like 'antiquing' either. Natural wear and tear? Fine - my cello has had a hard life but it's about 120 years old.

A lot of people think that their old violins/violas/cellos look how they do because of natural wear and tear, when they were actually antiqued in the first place. It's not a recent trend - it goes back to the 19th century. Not saying this applies to yours, just making a general point.

If I were a young player Id be buying.. yes you need to inspect them and know what youre buying ideally direct from the previous owner or a reputable retailer

what one person finds expensive to another is fairly priced ...in 5-10 years time todays prices will look like a bargain..IMO

My feeling is that investment potential is the only rational reason for paying through the nose for a vintage Fender. Mojo aside, I think modern repros offer much better value for money as playing instruments. Just my opinion, don't shoot me...😃

  8. Just wondering what fingering  people use for the fill after the intro riff?

    The one that goes C- E flat1- F- A flat- Eflat 2?

I find it easiest to stay in first position, and only go up for the high E flat.

Tabs and you tubers all seem to go up to the lower E flat on the 6th fret of the A-string.

    What does Norman do?

This is how Simon at SVL does it. That's almost art!

The thing is, that's not hard to do. You just have to care about your work...🤷‍♂️
