I played this song at least once a month for 20 years and never realised those open A’s were there 👀

The depressing thing is that when you do go to the trouble of putting them in, no-one else notices. But you do feel better about yourself...😂

Well I'm very much a rookie and not seen any of the ones I have struggled with here and so will stay quiet about most of them!

That said a largely simple song - all right now - has an instrumental section that has a bar of standard fingering in the money zone followed by a jump to right up near the bridge with the open A played with the thumb, repeated over and over. Getting the notes in the right order and close to on time, just needs tidying up now!

I play it slightly differently, with my index finger (not thumb) playing the open A (raking down from the D string on the G and F#) and an extra 1/16th note open A between each 1/8 note group. Would be a lot easier to demonstrate than describe...😀

The extra open A really helps to drive the rhythm along, and feels really natural once you get the hang of it.

It's no worse than the Sadowsky headstock, and a bazillion times better than the Alleva-Coppolo one. IMO anyway.

Well,   personal taste comes into it of course, but to my eyes the curves of both the Sadowsky and A-C headstocks flow naturally into one another, and work well together. The Sire headstock is just an awkward-looking mess that makes no geometric sense. One could well say "so what" and that's a perfectly valid position to take. 😀

Naw, I`m pretty sure thats the new shape 24 fret job that no bugger seems to be buying as Andertons have dropped the prices about £200.

Yes, I see you're right now.

Had it down as a standard V7 when I saw them last night, but I was a fair way back.

They made an active 5 string for Nathan King a few years back to thank him for doing the Andertons video`s. Here he is playing it.

Saw the Blockheads last night at Dingwall's. They were great.

    Isn't that just a standard Sire V7?

Maybe have a word with Gemini Pickups - they're very helpful and willing to chat about special orders. I have a set of their jazz pickups and they're lovely. They also wound me a modded set of soapbars and some mini-humbuckers for a guitar I put together for a friend...all great stuff.

Thanks - just checked out their web page. Which jazz pickups do you have?

  7. Hi

Looking for someone to make me a pair of custom pickup replacements for my 1970's Fernandes Jazz Bass.

The pickups on this are both "standard JB" neck pickup sized, so I need a pair of neck-pickup sized PUPs, but one needs to be opposite polarity, so I can't just buy 2 single neck pickups. Hence the need for a custom jobby.

    Any recommendations?

Going off the recent comments all of the strings bought following the OP link seem to be legit at £13.  I didn't carry out much due diligence when I ordered mine off Amazon but they arrived today and are legit.  I'm sure you get lots of knock offs sold via Amazon but in this instance the D'Addario strings seem fine.

Ditto: mine took a while to come, but 100% kosher. Hope I didn't do anything incorrect by posting the link in the original post. Just thought it would be of interest to others. These genuine bargains/pricing anomalies do pop up from time to time on Amazon.😊
