1. Hi, I just bought one of these basses and I'm very happy with it, but it could do with a few tweaks to get the setup to my liking.

It didn't come with a truss rod and Yamaha UK were, well, unable to do anything bar pass me along to Sontec. They told me they'd never had a request for a truss rod before, and would need to check with Yamaha to see if they can even give me information relating to truss rod type and size if they don't have any available.

Would anyone know what tool I need and where I might get one?

    TIA ;)

  2. I had a Warwick Streamer LX with the H/S pup configuration - and loved it - but couldn't get on with how it slapped. Or how it hung on me when standing. And I didn't like the oily finish thing or much like the colour of the fretboard and was never a fan of the spade-like headstock.

The pup placement/height was also about perfect for finger style play.

I've had any number of Fender Jazz basses ('75 reissue necks being my favourites) and loved how they slapped, but was often niggled by a constant search for a fuller. richer tone. Aesthetically they are hugely appealing to me - unless they have a rosewood board with dots, then they are one the verge of m***erdom.

An Aerodyne I had for a short time was the perfect weight, but sounded like a Jazz after someone let the tyres down.

I want a bass that marries the best of things I like from above. Light, rich in tone with H/S (or H/H and coil splits) that plays and slaps like a Jazz and looks amazing.

Maybe something like a Clover Apeiron or a Status Graphite Jazz bass - are there others I don't know of that would deliver what I need?

  3. I just got my first ever GL jazzer recently and these are amazingly good basses. Rather unfortunately, I'm struggling to play it as a result of a medical thingie at the moment.

However, I can't help think that the Geddy Lee tag misrepresents that this is, fundamentally, a superb bass from Fender. As someone who has owned and played around 35-40 jazzers since I began in the 70's, this is simply one of the best.

They look fabulous, sound brilliant and play beautifully - the necks a dream!

£400 quid's a steal. Good luck with your sale.

What do these compare to? I'm a dyed in the wool precision man, how does a zoot compare? These are made just down the road from me.

Quality wise - easily on a par with the best of Fender and surpassing most. Beautifully made from the best materials with the finishing a tale of attention to detail and craftsmanship.

Sonically they are rich and deep and purposefully capable of delivering a variety of tones.

Great basses then - with this particular one at a great price.

And hopefully someone else's new Zoot shortly.

Price drop to a ridiculous £450. I'm keen to move this on as I have my eye on something.
