  1. For sale is my Phil Jones BG-75 Double Four combo with fitted Phil Jones carry case. 70 watts. Official blurb and specifications are here: https://www.pjbworld.com/cms/index.php/product_bg-75/

I'm in south London/Surrey and often work in central London, so could arrange a handover around this area or can post via Parcelforce next day delivery (which I think would work out about the same as my travel cost).

No trade offers please, I'm only looking to sell.

I bought this on basschat in 2017. I've used it at home, occasionally at rehearsals, and once at a small pub gig for a folk band I was in. Honestly for that gig it was barely loud enough (it wasn't miced up and there was no PA support), but it's a great little practice amp, very small and extremely lightweight (4kg says the PJB website), and I'm sure would work well miced up live or for a quieter performance.

For the band I'm in now, I'm using backline provided at rehearsal studios and gig venues, and am using an USB interface at home, so I'm selling this as it just isn't getting any use.

The amp is in very good condition and has always lived in it's case when not in use. When I turn the amp off it gives a little thump/pop noise, but as far as I can remember it's always done this. I've experienced that with other amps too, and as far as I know it's not a problem or indicative of a fault, but best to be upfront.

Any questions please let me know.

    Cheers,

    Edd

When you have done the deal... refund or replace...

I'd be asking GAK how much to keep the damaged one, save the cost of DPD etc... bound to find a P body somewhere, or design ya own and fit the bits!

Body would also be the perfect starting place for a cheeky thru' neck P... @Andyjr1515

I did think about taking the refund and keeping it, but unfortunately don't have the space (only because I'm planning to use the return shop credit to replace the bass, mind!)

That and I have no experience in putting together a bass from parts, so there's a serious risk it would just sit there as a project that never gets off the ground.

  3. Thanks again all, basschat is such a fantastic resource.

GAK have been very good with this, within the day they replied to say they were contacting Fender, then replied shortly after to offer me a full refund or swap. A like for like swap isn't possible as they have no stock on what was a limited run, which is a shame, but that just means I've spent a while browsing the GAK website!

They also offered the opportunity to send DPD to collect if I packaged the bass up for return, which would save me the train fare down to Brighton.

Apparently Fender replied to them that they thought it was a manufacturing error with the body joint.

  4. I bought it new from GAK, so have contacted them just to let them know. If it does turn out to be a structural flaw I'll be looking to them for a refund of some kind, though I do appreciate it's been nearly a year since I bought it so for all they know I could've left it out in the rain or stuck it in an oven or something daft.

I've got a rehearsal tonight and gig tomorrow, assuming nothing terrible happens at those I'll have the neck off later in the week to check the neck pocket.

    Thanks all!

  5. Hi all,

I've had my Squier 40th anniversary p bass for nearly a year.

I've just noticed a large mainly straight crack running down almost the entire length of the back of the body from the neck plate to the strap button (where the crack curves slightly). It doesn't seem to extend round to the front of the body or the heel, though I haven't checked under the pickguard or bridge.

If it's a two-piece body, I'd guess the crack is along the seam, but I've no idea. Could this just be a crack in the lacquer/paintwork or am I looking at a more serious structural issue here?

The bass always lives in a normal room in the house and is transported in a decent padded gigbag when out and about, so there's not been any massive temperature change, and I don't remember any serious knocks.

Expert views are very welcome please!

Sorry for the crap photos, but I found photographing a shiny black bass without a great big reflection of me quite tricky! One of the photos was with the flash on my phone so possibly makes it look a bit worse than it is.

    Cheers,

  6. I could be wrong but with that colour I wonder if it's an element B4. If so I have the same in black and it's with a markbass preamp and bartolini pickups. I find it a very comfortable bass to play with a great satin neck, with decent active electronics but the passive sound perhaps a little weak. I'm no electronics  expert though so some tweaking at the amp end could well sort it out.

All in all though I'd say if it is a B4 £230 seems a fair price if it's in good condition. I think new they go for around £400 or so.

  7. Earlier today I took delivery of this beauty! It's the second P bass I've owned. The first I never got along with and sold, but from a few hours playing this afternoon I'm really enjoying this. I took a risk ordering online without trying in a shop but I was keen to give P basses another shot.

It's a comfortable weight (can't tell you exactly how much), balances well on the knee and strap, and the neck dimensions feel nice in the hand. The neck finish is glossy, which is quite different of course to the satin finish I've been playing, but feels nice to get around and not sticky at all.

I've only played unplugged and through headphones so far, so a rehearsal next week will be the real test. So far so good though, it sounds good and the tone knob offers a decent range.

It came pretty much set up and ready straight out of the box which was nice. Just a minor truss rod tweak needed, but otherwise the intonation is spot on and the saddle heights work for me.

Pictures of course! There's some rather nice grain on the fretboard, and I'm a big fan of the black and gold with blocks look.

  8. If anyone fancies a bit of a project, or some modding, I just saw a black Westone Spectrum 2 for sale at Robert Grummitt's music shop in Caterham, Surrey. It's in the window for 30 quid, apparently with dead circuitry.

I see information about Westones coming up every now and again, but don't know much about them. It looks a nice bass though, and without having a proper look it appears in good condition otherwise for what I assume is perhaps 30+ years old? From a very quick look online there seem to be Spectrums for sale for a few hundred quid, so this could be a good deal for somebody who has the electronic know how, or fancies taking it in somewhere to be mended.

Just to say I've no affiliation to the shop whatsoever, I just happened to be passing and had never seen a bass in the window before.

  9. Just seen this on Facebook. Twang Guitars in Penge, South London have a Yamaha SB1C for sale, with some potential link to Paul Kossoff apparently!

    Facebook link

I've never heard of this model before, but it's certainly an interesting design! Any fans?

I'm not affiliated to the shop in any way by the way, but I've shopped there a few times and they seem decent if anyone is interested.
