1.
Tinyviking: Dont worry about the sound clip :) i'll have to look around the music stores around Christmas, theyll probably have them in soon!

That rig looks great by the way! (love the lights, do you use them live?) and the SR5 is a beaut!

Its funny really, i remember mailing Hartke a few years back saying they should produce hyDrive 2x12s. Explaining that the already produce the 12" speakers in the HyDrive combos, so why not a cabinet!?

If youd like to let me know how things are when you get your LH1000 thatd be great.

Another question, are you keeping your HA3500? I have one also, and wouldnt mind having an opinion on the HA vs. LH
yes we do use "fairy lights" as part of our awesome stage set.
I am keeping the 3500, in fact I'm putting it back into the original 1155c combo. It's an original mosfet head which is roughly 18 years old!
I'll post back when the new amp arrives.
The SR5 needs new strings but still sounds good.

2.
Should be getting mine on saturday. I was a bit worried at first that the 300w cab wont take my lh500 but after reading here it seems like it would be cool
Trust me your ears will give out before the cab will.! :)
I'm pretty sure you too will be impressed.
Enjoy.

3. OK - here's my sweet little pair of 112's

Very happy with them so far. don't know if they need "run in" but out of the box they're sounding pretty effing good!
the tweeters are a new thing for me it was amazing to hear more "zing".
They do give a very nice tone - the Hydrive idea really seems to work.
I actually found I could switch off the VXL pedal and the badd sounded really nice and balanced.
Need to play with more settings and see how much of the tweeters I want.

Can't wait for the new amp now!! :)

4.
Is their any Mileage in having a bass chat area, so everyone can congregate when the slapathon gets too much?

I was sat next to the lift on the ground floor, across from the TC electronic stand, i was basically checking that the two Hartke Rigs for Billy Sheehan and Stu Hamm were working, and we'd been allocated that space, so i just left my Squier for people to try the rigs.We were meant to get them signed to raffle off at some point, but we couldn't get the gold/silver pen to work. Which was a shame.

It was one of the quieter areas, until the TC rigs got cranked up to their limit.

Short of all wearing Basschat t-shirts, it's hard to gauge who is who. Red roses in lapels?
Holy Hell :) - I was the annoying scottish guy that wandered over a couple of times! Talked to your guitarist mate who knew nothing about the gear (he said). OK, next time I'm just going to shake EVERYBODY'S hand and ask if their on basschat!! :)

That'll work! :)

5.
£341 on thomann!

Is there any videos released by hartke showing these off?

2 x 112 w/LH500

Or

4 x 112 w/LH1000

I would like to hear the power of that big rig :)
I'm hopeful that I will be getting my hands on 2 x 112 and an LH1000 very soon.
If you want I can try and record something and post it up?
It's always tricky to capture the sound but I'll give it a go if your interested.

6.
where were the pics of Mo Foster and paul balmer taken? I didnt even see that room? I do remember Steve mentioning about Paul Balmer, but when I went outside the auditorium ino the exhibition I couldt see him. Why i never asked i have no idea.
That was in the "Lecture Theatre" which was UNDER THE STAIRS.
I had to ask the very pretty young lady where it was - she was very helpful.

7. I for one enjoyed my first ever BassDay UK.
It was a pleasure to make the aquaintance of "Dood" and "Born to be Mild".
It seems there were many others who were there but of course no one knows who anyone else is.
I second the suggested meet up in the bar for next time!

I enjoyed the clinics and the Fender Bass Manual workshop.
It's just interesting to hear all of the stories and experiences of so many great players.
I have to admit the cacophony of players slapping themselves silly did get a bit much at times but what an array of fine instruments there were.
I hope this gets bigger every year,

I was disappointed that no big Hartke stand was there - especially as three endorsees were playing that day. Never mind eh?
I got a few photos but posting them here seems to be a bit of a problem
Try this link to view them.

8. Right, I've decided to drive down from Edinburgh for this. Just CANNOT pass up the chance to see all of this "under one roof".
I going to leave the credit card AT HOME THOUGH!! can't take any chances. :)

Will it be OK just to pay at the door for entry??

As the Blues Brothers didn't say...
It's dark, I'm wearing spectacles and it's four hours to go... hit it!!

See y'all there??

9. Just thought I should put in a good word on the side of Hartke Amps; I've been using an original 3500 for, er.. 16 years! still going strong- I especially like the tube/solid state preamp 'cause you can dial in some nice growl for rock style playing or keep it squeaky clean for 'pop'.
This is also a real valve you can 'upgrade' to give a slightly different response - not a 'simulator' circuit.

Other than that I've only ever tried Ashdown and Trace Elliot, neither seemed to cut it for me sadly.

I recently blew my 15 inch Hartke driver so I too am on the hunt for a cab which I thought I had decided on getting a 410XL but reading this thread is making me wonder.
I've got a feeling that although two 2x10 cabs give you the same number of speakers I doubt if they give you the same sensitivty from the combined cabs?
I always feel bass needs a bigger speaker cab to provide more air to move to get more 'bottom'.
I may be wrong and I don't know enough to get embroiled in a techy discussion about internal volumes and frequencies etc.

Meanwhile I have all the parts to build a BFM Omni15 TB but no chance of getting it done this year!

I guess all this can get very confusing. Best to keep an open mind, try out as many different rigs as you can manage and find the one which suits you and your music and your wallet!!
I'll also wish you luck in your noble quest. May the gods of music and wisdom smile upon you :)

10. Hartke have indeed "updated" the 3500 model by giving it a silver facia and sticking it into a wodden box.
Essentially though all 3500 or 5000 model amps are the same with more or less 'box' around them.
As the web site says - design hasn't changed since 1990.
I myself have a 15 year old example, still going strong but might need the dust blown out of it I think

I've never considered another amp, but might need more speakers!

:)

11.
You risk frying your amp if that speaker is 4ohm - I'm assuming the internal combo speaker is 8ohm and that the amp will have a minimum load of 4ohms. Putting a 4ohm speaker with an 8ohm speaker together will most likely give you a total impedance of 2.7 ohms (if the wiring is in parallel), so unless that combo goes down to 2ohm (which is unlikely) it will probably run very hot and may well die on you!
oh crap! i'll have to build a BFM omni cab to replace it then! :)

12. Since we wern't using the bass speakers from the PA I decided to do this....

Makes a difference and no mistake!
Not sure of the consequences of adding a 4 Ohm speaker to an 8 Ohm combo though.
Anyway it sounds huge! :)

13. I'm thinking along similair lines - needing an extension cab to compliment my Hartke combo (1 x 15 and 1 x 5).
I've been looking at BFM Omni's or perhaps another more standard 2x10 or 2x12 design as I've read on other forums a debate regarding wether or not the BFM bass horn style delivers any real advantages in smaller cabinets; the discussion got really technical and I was lost! Eminence speakers did seem to get the vote from all involved however.

I'm needing an 8 Ohm 350W cab really (hartke 3500 head) which I could stack on the combo.

Anyone else using a similair combination of speakers/cabs?
DIY or store bought?

What would be really handy is a big room with every kind of cab lined up, a pile of leads and amp heads so we could all go there and try everything out - DIY and factory cabs together. Anybody done that yet?

Not sure I'm really helping?

14. I've experienced the "wooly" sound when using an ashdown rig at a local practice room. I think it was an evo 3 head and a 4 x 10 cab. plugged in my MM Sting-5 and after pushing all the buttons and twisting everything around could not get a decent enough tone - lacked defenition from the higher frequencies.
Just today I used the same cab but this time took along my own Hartke 3500 head - it was like night and day! instantly controllable sound - good cabinet IMHO - handled the low C very nicely indeed!

I suppose either I can't adjust amps properly or the ashdown head was suspect?

next!

15. Nearly 40, started playing guitar just around 1987 when everyone else was doing the same. Nobody needed another guitarist so swapped to Bass after a couple of years and haven't looked back (though I still play the "small one" now and again for some ROCK therapy).
I started playing with schoolmates in a rock band, covers mostly but we wrote 3 or 4 original songs and recorded them for a demo. Since then played in a several covers bands, again all sorts of rock mainly and did a bit of singing too.
Now confined to the Bedroom while current band takes a break (all original songs no covers), itching to get out again!

I play fingerstyle using three fingers for speed playing (thank you Billy Sheehan instructional video) can do tapping, slapping, popping, pinched harmonics, chords.. anything that works in the song.
Gear: Fender P (hipshot D tuner - Sheehan again!), brand new MMStingray 5 (lovin it!), Hartke 1155 combo (pretty much flat EQ but lots of valve dialed in)
Philosophy: lock in with the drummer, keep your ear on the melody, make the song as good as it can be.
Influences: Geezer Butler, Cliff Burton, Geddy Lee, Billy Sheehan, Stu Hamm, other musicians!

[rambling hafwit mode: off]
:)

16. I would agree with that. looking at the PMP5000, why not feed the FOH using monitor mix section? you can set the levels for FOH with the mon. mix 1 say then use the main outs as you have before to feed your C300's as "foldback" for the band.
so in summary; knobs for the FOH and sliders for the band?
this gives you two seperate mixes to play with.
Someone can correct me if this is way off!

17. Hey Guys...

Thanks again for all your advice. In the end I sold my soul for the MM Stingray 5  . Big thankyou to 'SlaphappyGray' who's mate at the store helped get me a deal on it! ( he laughed when I said you told me to go to Scayles! :) )

Here's a quick crappy photo...

THANK YOU EVEYRBODY!

18. Nicely executed skin chaps, Job well done! I know there's a bit of javascript that could give a different tagline each refresh of the page if that is of any interest at all? Regardless - works well in Firefox.

19. Hey guys, I'm suprised folk are still posting to this thread - THANKS!!

I've really fallen for the MM Stingray 5 but I'm definitely going to make a day of going round the shops and try every other flippin' bass before I part with the cash for a new one. I really like the natural finish (Like I said before; it matches my precision - which I think very cool) so I'm kind of looking for something along those lines. The £900 silver finish does look nice though.

The other part of this quest is to get my band back playing again - I need to justify the purchase of such an instrument if it's to sit in the bedroom for years to come! Just like a car the damn thing will loose value straight out of the shop which is a bummer.
Anyway...I'm glad to have had all the views and comments form you all - gets me right here (hand on chest area, wipes tear from eye). You're my best friends *sniff*

I'll let you know what I get and wether I'll be getting it tattoed on my arm as a tribute!
