The good news is that the body is now mostly stripped - the bad news is that it's a three-piece body. Although there's some interesting figuring in the wood. Pics up a.s.a.p. Oli

I have access to a hand-held belt sander, would this be too savage to use? Would it rip up the wood, or would it be ok? I'd only use it on the flat surfaces, and hand-sand the horns and curves. Oli

After having just examined a chip in the finish, I've realised that there's about 1-2mm of polyurethane to go through yet. Might have to empoy a sander for this one...

*update* I've stripped down the majority of the bass now, just some of the edges left to do now. I'll tackle what's left either with more Nitromors or increasingly-fine grades of sandpaper. The Beginning: After the first strip: Once it's stripped completely, it's oiling time! Oli

Having the 6-string version of that, I have nothing but praise for it. Beautiful to look at, beautiful to play, I gig with mine with no backup with absolute confidence.

I'm testing the Nitromors on the neck pocket, see what happens. If it's no good, it won't be noticeable at least but from reading the back, it looks to be good stuff. Oli

Right, so Nitromors followed by sandpaper to take it back to the wood. Then the oil - what's the best way to apply this? Brush, pad, cloth? And no, Homebase aren't that specialised with sandpaper - I'll hit Halfords, I need some bits for the car anyway! Cheers, Oli

Right, Nitromors is easy enough to get hold of for me. Should I sand it by hand or use an orbital or mouse (small hand-held) sander? And I was thinking just a Danish Oil finish, but would Teak Oil work too? I'd like quite a dark finish, but I'll have a look when I'm next at work to see what's available. Oli

Hey y'all After looking around on here and Talkbass for a while, I've decided that my old 4-string is in need of a revamp. Pickups, pots, jack and preamp are all sorted, but I really want to strip down the body and have a natural finish. This bass is a Peavey Milestone III, and though I'm not sure, I think it's a trans blue finish with a lacquer over the top. I was simply wondering how I would go about stripping this finish off, whether I'd be okay with a paint stripping fluid or gell, or whether I'd have to sand the finish off. Anybody either tried this or know what to do? BTW, I work at a department store (Homebase) so getting hold of stripping agents isn't a problem. Thanks Oli

No, it's passive actually, no pre-amp to be seen. It's a Grind BXP btw, just regular pots in the back. Nit even concentric pots. The shipping - as I feared, although if the product's worth it, I'll just have to grin and bear it! Oliver

Howdy hey people! Right, I've been looking into upgrading my Peavey Grind 6 for a while now, and short of adding straplocks, can't really find much I want to change... Although a pre-amp would be handy for that bit more 'boost.' Looking at the Audere website, I'm quite fond of the Classic 4-band pre-amp, with the 2 stacked and 2 flat pots. I have a few questions, put to those who have already deal;t with Audere: -how easy are these things to install? I'm not that good with a drill or soldering iron, but I could my dad to do anything more technical. -is there plenty of room for a battery? -is the pre-amp affected by magnets? I want to install magnets on the cavity cover to make it easier to remove, but I obviously won't if it will mess with the electronics or pickups. -are Audere ok to deal with from the UK? What's the postal charge like? Finally, can anybody recommend a better pre-amp for under £100? That's my limit really, what with the current economic climate (and me not having been payed yet!) Greetings fellow bassists! I've decided to migrate here from TalkBass, just because this one's British! Right, a little bit about myself- -currently at University, studying Architecture at The Robert Gordon University -have been in music since I was 8 (now 18) -started on the violin, then took up bass, and now play anything with strings basically! -I'm into whatever music's on really, classical to punk, sould to jazz fusion, you name it I'll play it! As I'm a poor student, I can't afford much in the way of gear, although I do have two basses- -Peavey Milestone III (part of a starter bundle from a local music shop) -Peavey Grind NTB 6-string (my baby, I love her to bits!) Also have a 180W Behringer amp, plus 20W practice amp set up with a Digitech Multi-effects pedal on top. Any gigs near to me that need to be subbed (near Montrose btw), give me a shout! Cheers, Oliver
