1. Hi Chaps,

Can anyone point me at a good 'on-line' source for Lemon Oil for cleaning and dressing my fret board? Looking for something that’s good quality, you guys know these things.

    Thanks

    Oggy :)

  2. Be very careful when using Interparcel; they have a nasty little 'get out clause' for non delivery using next day 'Premium' service.

Don't make the mistake I made when sending a Bass from Reading to Aberdeen using Interparcel Premium Service, thinking that they would fall under "most of UK mainland", apparently Reading and Aberdeen don't fall in this category and they would have told me this if I'd called them after they had accepted the booking and money - silly me :) .

    From Interparcel web site:

    Interparcel Premium
Guaranteed collection on the date you choose, or your money back.
Delivery is guaranteed by end of next working day after collection to most of
UK mainland, or your money back. This service is delivered by UPS.

Perhaps if Interparcel added a note to the 'Premium Service' eg.
We'll accept your booking and money but if you don't call us and make sure that the shipping point and destination point fall under what we deem as "most of UK mainland" we will not deliver the next day and we defiantly won't give you your money back. We will however blame you for not calling us and UPS who act as our courier for any late delivery - thank you, now give us your money cos that's all were interested in :) .

My recommendation would be not to use this company, I'm still trying very hard to believe that they think Reading and Aberdeen are not major centres and don't fall under 'most of UK mainland', must be an age thing  .

  3.
The most immaculate Les Paul bass received and tucked up in Aberdeen!

A pleasure to do business with you Oggy, you'll know that it's went to a good home

    Another great sale through Basschat

    Bass regards

    Andy
Thank you for your kind words Andy, appreciated.

I have to say that 'less than professional service' from Interparcel couriers didn't do either of us any favours, would I use them again? Think not.

Anyway, all's well that ends well and I'm pleased that your pleased - enjoy her and look after her - I know you will.

  4. Hi Chaps,

I hope this is the right area for this, let me know if it's not.

I have a short scale Gibson SG re-issue bass and a Fender Mustang short scale – lucky me I love them both.

I find that the Mustang gives me a fatter more rounded sound than I can get from the Gibson, I have my theory on this, and it goes like this:

The position of the single coil split pickup on the Mustang is roughly midway to where the neck and bridge pickups are placed on the SG. I use the top of the only pickup on the Mustang as a thumb rest and the top of the bridge pickup on the SG as a thumb rest. I think that if I had a thumb rest fitted to the SG bass – midway between the bridge and neck pickup I’d get a 'rounder' sound from the SG, as I get from the Mustang.

Does anyone know if at any time Gibson have fitted a thumb rest in this midway position? I think that it’d give me a more rounded tone; it does when I rest my thumb on the body of the bass in this position but I’m not a good enough player to play the bass like that and really need a thumb rest - I think :) .

I'd like to hear your thoughts on the above before I put a thumb rest on the SG.

I've been looking all over for one of these, what scale is it? :)

  6. Evening All,

I've had three (Swap - P/X) offers so far, number one a USA Fender Mustang vintage one from the 70's - very very very tempted but already have a CIJ Mustang that I love, number two an Alembic 32" - again very tempted but it's a tad on the heavy side for me +/- 10lbs (I know, wimp), number three a Shuker 34" - very nice Bass I'd love to own it but my fingers won't let me - Agggggggggg-rthritis.

HELP - Anyone out there with a 32" scale they're looking to Swap or P/X????????

The poor Gibson is languishing in it's case under the bed again, won't someone give this beauty a home and some much needed playing time.

    Oggy :)

  7.
im actually in love
dont have the money to afford it but if i did i would bite your arm off for it.
    :)
Hi jwlkr,

I know that feeling  , just how I felt when I first saw one of these being used by the Bassist / Vocalist in the Yardbirds, then it took me a year to track a new one down. You can imagine how gutted I was when I found it too heavy for me plus the 34” scale aggravated the arthritis in my left hand :P .

    Oggy :D

News flash from my work colleague:- Six out of seven dwarfs are not Happy, well I thought it was funny, my Missus didn't :).

  8. Bump - for price reduction, I think this is a sensible price for a 'Gibson Les Paul Standard Bass' in this condition.

She's gotta go chaps, I can't justify keeping this under the bed any longer.

I need to put the cash into something I can play.

I'm also up for a P/X or Swap for an up-market Medium or Short scale bass, preferably a Medium scale - I have two short scale basses but would really like to add a 32" to the collection.

PM me if you're interested, thanks for looking

    Oggy :)

  9. Good on you mrtcat and the rest of 'Crude Measure'. I'll be in Australia on that date, seeing new grandchild, but I really hope your gig goes as well as expected and you raise LOADS of £££££££.

Great Charity to be involved in.

If any of you guys are at a lose end on THURSDAY 21st OCTOBER and are in the Camden area, close to Kentish Town Tube Station and Chalk Farm, my band BLUES TRINITY could do with a wee bit of support.

Three bands on at the 'Fiddlers Elbow', we're playing the 8:45 - 9:30 slot.

Come on down for a bit of Blues/Rock and have a listen and a chat. We've got a couple of guys with CamCorders coming to do a few clips for YouTube and our web site so (any) your support would be really appreciated.

EDIT:- 19-10-10 This is going to be the last gig we do with our drummer 'Mike', he’s leaving due to personal stuff getting in the way :) . He’ll be really missed by Tony and myself; we’ve played with him for three years now. If any of you guys know of any good Blues/Rock drummers based in the North London area who are looking for a band please give me a shout.

    --------------------------------------
The edit about our current drummer 'Mike' leaving the band has been added - If any of you guys can help us find a replacement I'd be really greatful.

  11.
I've always put covers up on YouTube as well as originals. Never been a problem. I've always credited who the song was originally by. Millions of bedroom players do covers and I never hear of any issues. The reality is you don't get more than a few hundred hits so if it is a breach of copyright then I think the lawyers reckon we're not worth the effort.

My limited experience in this field (a couple of bands I'm in have videos of covers on youtube), is that you should be fine! As long as you're not out to make profit, no-one will bat an eyelid.

It's when you upload original recordings that record companies (who usually own the sound recording, but not the intellectual rights to the composition) start to take notice. If it's blatant unauthorised distribution, then they get a bit miffed. Results seem to vary wildly though.

But you're not doing any of that. Go ahead!
Thanks BurritoBass & Huwberry - We'll just have to see now if we get anything from the set that's worth putting up on YouTube :) . I'll stick a post on here when / if anything makes it off the cutting room floor .

  12.
Hagstrom Swede? Gretsch Broadkaster? Guild Starfire? Problem is going to be finding someone on here who has one and wants to trade it. Or a nice DeArmond Starfire with Darkstars, and put some money in your pocket.

I looked at your ad. Just my opinion FWIW, but I'd link to the site with all the spec details, so people aren't faced with that huge list they may not be that interested in. Plus, I'm not that interested in where you bought the bass and why you can't play it, and justifying the price just sounds defensive. Important things are: The Price, it's in immaculate condition, Les Pauls are great rock basses, you won't ship or take paypal. So that's a couple of short paragraphs, all you need. And if you brought the price down to say £990 it would sound less frightening.

Seriously consider shipping. You might want to try before buying, but it's not you you're selling to. I buy unseen all the time, if I didn't I'd never buy anything.
Hi spinynormam,

"Hagstrom Swede, Gretsch Broadkaster, Guild Starfire" I though for one minute I was looking at the names of some very obscure beers on the pumps at the PUB, I'll be having a bash with Google.

Yup, your comments on my add are totally justified - I should just let the pic's and the link to the Gibson site speak for themselves. Good advice on the price also, although £999 sounds better to me - only joking. I've sort of made my mind up that the bass won't sell even at +/- £900, I'm not being defeatist - I just think that the current economic climate is so harsh that everyone is hanging on to what money they have and I sure don't blame them, worse to come I'm afraid.

Trading basses is IMO the way forward, I'm gob-smacked at the low prices and reductions for some very nice basses being sold on this site, wouldn't have seen that 12 - 18 months ago.

Anyway thanks again, I'll work with your advice.

  14. I’ve had this Gibson Les Paul Standard Bass -THIS BASS - up for sale on the site for some time now and had no interest, I can understand that - what with the current economic climate and the Bass being a bit of an acquired taste sort of thing.

Instead of it being kept under the bed I was thinking that perhaps I should try for a trade for a Short or Medium scale Bass of equal quality / price, at least I'd have a bass then that I could use.

I currently have a Fender Mustang and Gibson SG Re-Issue Short, so I wouldn’t be interested in another of either.

For those of you guys ‘in the know’, what other Short / Medium Sale Basses would be of similar quality / price I could possibly ask to trade for?

I’d grateful for any input from other site members.

  15. Hi fellow Basschatters,

My band has a couple of guys with (pro quality) camcorders coming to a gig in the next couple of weeks ‘Fiddlers Elbow – Camden – 21st Oct’ (shameless plug) to do some video / sound recording for us to post on YouTube and our own web site!

The idea is that if we can get 2 or 3 good numbers from the set and post them on the web for promo we might get a few more gigs. None of the tracks or video content is for sale, just for band promo.

My question to you chaps is: How does copyright effect what we post? We’re a Blues/Rock band and all our stuff is covers – Joe Bonomass, BB King, Clapton, all the usual suspects. Would we have to get permission from artists or writers to post our interpretations? Do we need to ‘credit’ anyone? Will I find a Lawyer on my doorstep? :)

What can you chaps tell me??????

    Oggy
