1. RMC makes piezo saddles that fit several standard bridges. The best (IMO) though are the Reference piezo pickups made by Rick Turner. Unfortunately he doesn't sell 'm as retrofits - only featured on his Electroline basses. These pickups (combined with a quality preamp, a neccesity for all piezo pickups) have a HUGE sound and no harshness as often heard in ABG pickups. If you can fit a ABG style bridge (single saddle) on your bass you might want to check out (apart from RMC, Highlander and D-Tar models) Schertler Bluestick. It is featured on the fourstring models of Kristall basses made by Andi Kristall in Germany, check out his website http://www.kristallbass.com. If I wouldn't have my Turner Electroline I'd buy his Room 5 (see picture; with seperate piezo saddles) bass!

Checked this out, you're talking about a different bass. Mine was exported to the Netherlands ca. '89/'90 by a company wanting to take up Overwater distribution, then sold to the person I bought it from who has played it since '91.

Well if it was refinished it must have been ages ago since the finish appears quite worn at places. I'll keep researching the bass' history...soundclip added,
direct to harddisk, no EQ or compression but with very old strings... :)

  4.
I'll probably get flamed by the electronics pros for saying this, but if it's just for noodling, as a "bodge" you could try plugging your guitar straight into the poweramp. This should be a slightly stronger signal level than your DI socket.
Hey, I've done that with a Trace - it actually sounded better than through the preamp. It works, but your level still to low for decent output power. For a while I used a Boss TM3 Line Driver and this indeed gave me enough signal to drive the poweramp direct. There must be similar units available today.

  5.
OT a bit here - have you in ur research for your encyclopedia came across an 80s bass maker from Devon,England area

called D'wailles, de walles (or something close to that spelling) this has been bugging me for years.

That WRM for a ton also has a warped neck :)

    BB
OT again...no, never heard of. Eccleshall is in Devon, closest I can think of. D.Wallace is an american guitarmaker. I'll keep looking...

  6. Another nice one, BB, but your Overwater Original remains my favourite...sorry to see your nice collection of brit-basses downsized, however this bass will make someone very happy!

  7.
Sorry to wee on anyone's fireworks here but WRM is Wild Rose Music, who were an Ebay cheapo importer/reseller from a few years ago. The bass in question is a copy of a Vester Argus - WRM sold other basses "inspired" by obscure oriental designs, including a green-stained wooden Tokai Talbo knockoff.

There's no reason to believe this ain't a decent bass - but it's not a custom instrument so don't go paying custom prices! These were probably not much more than a ton when new.

    Jon
Thanks Jon, have added this obscure brand to my ever evolving Bass Encyclopedia - a project I should pick up again soon...

  8. Well, here it is! I really love it...more pictures after I've cleaned her up...there's no serial no., only the marking 1/2 at the side of the control cavity. Really like to know the 'official' model name. Thanks Chris, you build awesome basses that deserve much more attention beyond the UK. And thank you BB for your posts - The seller turned out a real nice guy and actually let it go for the equivalent of GBP 375. Incredible!

  9.
And here she is.......
Wow BB - that's beautiful!!!
Very similar to "mine", body shape looks a tiny bit different, pickups (Kent Armstrong?) closer together, Overwater bridge, unbound rosewood fingerboard (yours is ebony?) - I hope to pick it up tomorrow night and will post some good pictures!
Thanks, BB! Is it your main bass?

  10.
I saw a cherry sunburst one on consignment in a shop a few years ago. The lacquer and foto had worn away in a big patch where the previous owner's right arm must have rested, exposing the basswood underneath. It looked like he played close to the bridge. It totally ruined the look of the bass. It would have been beautiful otherwise. :)
Yes, these worn spots are a problem - I had two Yamaha's (RBX460, BBG5) with that problem...

  11.
It doesn't actually have a name. Referred to as an Overwater Original. I have a v.nice '82 in Blue and i love it!
Best of luck but if u decide to pass on it let me know. How you getting on with your steiny sale?

    BB
Steiny has left the building at 21:45 today...do you have a picture of your Overwater Original? Love to see yours!

  12.
The pic u have put up is of an Overwater C bass ( that actual pic is from a shop called
Oasis Music' website and that bass was allegedly built for Andrew Bodnar of the Thompson Twins, it sold for 1.5K )

If ur seller has a C bass ( it should say so on the headstock ) it effectively has a different tuning from normal -The low E is a C but cant remember wot the rest of the tuning is.

If its in good condition grab it!

    BB
I will!
It's not a C-bass, has a similar shape but more rounded body. Still looking for the model name - may know more tomorrow!

  13. Seen for sale: Overwater neckthrough 4 string '91, mahagony body with quilted maple top, 4 in line tuners, thin narrow neck, 24 frets, 2 HB's, Overwater bridge, original body shape. Can't get a picture up - don't know the model name. What do you guys think - is it worth GBP 450?
