1. Here's my current set: (L-R) Spector Euro 4, Stingray, Status Series 2, Warwick Thumb (1990 NT), Overwater Aspiration 5 Deluxe. Currently using the Status (main bass) and Stingray for gigging although the Overwater may make an appearance soon (I've only recently picked up this one).

  2. Apart from some high end (expensive) ones I've yet to see a LED par can that can match the defined beam you get from a traditional par 64 can. Having said that, the advantages of LED's far outweigh those of traditional bulbs IMO (we use both in my pub covers band).

The 3W tri-colour LED's seem to be the best that are widely available at the moment and I think these will cost more that the equivalent 8 x par 64 plus stands and basic controller set up (ive seen this for £500-£600 new). Having said that I would still go for LED's as it would probably be easier to add to and control.

  3. Just picked up a Deluxe 5 for my first sortie into the 5 string area. First impressions are very good but unfortunately I've got no gigs or band rehearsals due for another 3 weeks so not yet been able to find out how it sounds through my gigging rig. :)

  4.
Very tempting. I could try the drive to bass direct. Thing is the long solo drive is a bit scary (new driver) plus the petrol price for the return journey is steep when I wouldnt be buying from Mark (sadly much cheaper from thomann). Migh be a fun road trip for me 'n Dave though.
I drove to Bass Direct from Newcastle. IME the scariest thing was how much I was tempted to spend while I was there. :)

  5. I got mine from Bass Direct (Warwick) -500w power frame, solid state pre-amp (w/mute switch), blank EQ section and VPF/VLE on output stage. It was more expensive than a LM3 but I was prepared to pay this for the ability to swap out/upgrade the power amp and/or modules if I wanted to. I've had mine for approx 18 months and use it to go backline only in my pub covers band. It's a great amp IMO and I've been very happy with it. I've since changed the pre-amp to a tube pre-amp on a whim and found like the sound of this even better. I ordered it from Mark at BD on the Friday morning, it arrived the next morning and was swapped out 5 minutes later - job done! :)

Perhaps you could list particular basses that you would be interested in trading this for? Good luck with the sale/trade anyway. :)

  7. Have you considered the MoMark? If you aren't sure what you prefer that would allow you to swap out pre-amp, EQ and output modules if you fancy a change while keeping the same power amp frame.

  8. Turning 43 this year. The main difference is that one of the first questions I ask about a new gig venue these days is "It's not an upstairs room is it?" I still love the whole gigging experience, its just that the body takes a lot longer to recover these days. :) :)

  9. Status Hotwires on my S2
    DR's on my Warwick

Used Rotosound for years then decided to try something new after trying out the Hotwires and having had a few sets of dodgy Rotosounds where the .40 was snapping around the tuner where putting a new set on.

  10. I bought a new Line6 G30 at the weekend. The sound quality is great however the green led's on the receiver that show the signal quality and battery status are much less bright than those on the transmitter, making them very difficult to see. The guitarist in my band has a G30 but without this problem. I tested another G30 today at the retailer which had the same issue and then a G50 that didn't.

I'm now awaiting a replacement unit from the retailer but wondered if anyone else has come across this issue?

  11. Nothing wrong with a bit of showmanship IMHO as surely the point is to entertain people and have fun. It helps if you also don't take yourself too seriously. That said, if you're posing and jumping around to the point where it's seriously impairing your ability to play the song properly then perhaps it's time to re-think your priorities.

  12.
The AE410 looks great, but I can imagine after gigging it twice a month that must start to take a beating on the finish?
If you are prepared to fork out for an AE410 it's worth spending a few extra quid on a protective cover. I gig mine 2-3 times a month and the cover has kept the cab looking great.

  13. Liking the look of an item of gear is an important consideration for me, but always less important than liking the sound, playability and then portability. :)
