Must be a magpie.

Great price!
That Stingray is an awesome colour - if it had a maple fingerboard I would have jumped on it myself. -
You can have my Levinson B4 for £500 - beats the sh*t out of any Fender & it's active too:

(It's on Ebay at the moment starting at £529 but I'd be more than happy to stop the auction & sell it to someone on here). -
As far as temperature is concerned, the thing that will play havoc with instruments is being subjected to rapid changes in temperature.
Leaving them hanging on wall mounts in a cold room then heating it up quickly when you go out to the room to play will not do your guitars any favours. In this sort of environment you're much better off leaving the instruments in their cases. -
If all you're going to be saving is about £30 I wouldn't bother.
I've bought lots of guitars & accessories from the USA and saved quite a bit of money by doing so.
Having said that, the exchange rate isn't great at the moment - I wouldn't even consider buying from the USA at the current rate.
If you do buy you'll get hit for the VAT at 15% & the import duty, which is about 3.5%. They'll add these figures to the FULL amount of what you buy plus the shipping costs. There could also be extra handling charges depending on which courier service is used. -
You play with Paul Gilbert? I'm impressed!!
I Love Paul Gilberts playing - there's no-one to touch him IMO. The thing that sets him apart from all the other shredders is his great sense of humour & his ability to write great catchy pop/rock songs. -
I've been playing bass for 30 years now - it was the first instrument I learnt & I played nothing else for years.
Now I own twice as much guitar gear as bass gear, and play keyboards as well.
I love playing bass in a band or recording situation but I find just playing it on it's own very dull.
I'm a terrible guitarist and keyboard player but I get far more enjoyment from noodling about on them than I do from bass these days. -
Keep the pickups & change the preamp?

Found this on Ebay UK last night - I think it looks rather gorgeous.
Don't know if the seller is anyone on here.

Yes he did. -
What if you've got a through neck bass?
John Giblin is a fretless master. He makes it sing in a way I could only dream of.
John Giblin is a superb bassist. His bassline on "Babooshka" is my favourite of all time. -
I've got a Hankering for Graphite again and i'm considering a Status S2, but (sorry Rob) a Status doesn't feel "special enough" for the occasion.
If you want "Special" & "Graphite" seriously consider a Zon Legacy.
(You need a "Z" in your list anyway..... ) -
Lado
in Bass Guitars
I played quite a few Lado's many years ago (about 25 actually!) at the Frankfurt Music Messe trade fair. Great instruments, really good build quality.
Did you see either of the versions of Wishbone Ash gigs at the Globe in Cardiff recently?
I like watching them but in my book "just one orginal member left" counts as a tribute band ...
I was there for Martin Turners Wishbone Ash a few weeks ago. To me hearing Martins vocals & bass make it a more authentic sounding version than Andy Powells lot. -
Ha, who is Jeff?
Jeff Berlin - he doesn't advocate practicing with a metronome. -
Martin Turner is a fantastic bassist & was a huge influence on me when I started playing - "Argus" is full of great basslines which are a real blast to play.
If money is no object you could try to find a Zon Sonus 8 string... very light for an 8 and also has a graphite neck!
I had no idea that Zon made an 8 string - oh boy!! -
If money isn't an issue get yourself a Hamer 8 (or 12) string bass - you won't get a better one.
-
I'm wondering if the original recording might have been pitch shifted to give old Justins falsetto vocals a helping hand......

Could be an output stage fuse blown. Could be the lead. You need to try the head with a cab that you know works and the cab with an amp you know is OK so you can narrow down the possibilities of what's gone wrong.
You say you recently bought this setup - if it was new it's under warranty so have you contacted the shop you bought it from? -
This guy's looking for offers on a nice jazz body with quality aftermarket hardware: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=49099
Stick a precision neck on it and you could have the best of both worlds...Jazz sound, Precision feel.
I saw the body in the above thread on Sunday & can state that it's in really good condition & looks pretty groovy with the Badass bridge & chrome pickguard. -
It's the other way with me - I started off liking narrow Jazz bass type necks & ended up prefering chunkier ones.
-
You could leave switched it on 'til doomsday & it won't overheat unless you're driving it - you need to be playing it at the sort of volume & length of time that you were doing when it cut out the first time.
My Trace used to do that quite often when I was gigging with it - pain in the arse. Hated that bloody amp.
They just keep getting better
am i the onlyh one who doesnt 'get' ricks?
No.
I've owned two, a mid 70s one and an older checkerboard bound model with horseshoe & toaster pickups. One played OK but sounded like sh*t & the other one sounded OK & played like sh*t.
I desperately wanted to like them as at the time I worshipped both Chris Squire & Geddy Lee & I thought that a Rick 4001 was my dream bass. Never got on with them, or any other Ricky I've played. I personally find the build & finish quality of them mediocre at best & am astonished at the price they sell for these days.
I still think they look cool though.....
