500 watt bass head now surplus to requirements.

Overall good condition bar the scar on the case that is pictured.

Valve channel sounds a bit rough, suspect it’s just the valve that needs replacing though.

Low price reflects condition and potential valve replacement.

Great sounding head!

I think some form of PJ combination would be wise, so I've got both options covered.

Is there another Jazz model with a similar neck I wonder ?

I’ve grown to absolutely love this bass now, the fret size, radius, depth and nutwidth are perfect for me.

So much so that my AVRI P is gathering dust these days and that’s got me thinking ...

I think they vary a lot, to be more accurate it’s very similar to the neck on my Ric, not quite as deep but not far off it.

Usa one is actually quite deep. Rather like a Ric neck.

There's a chap on here from Newcastle who had one of these built. I don't know what it plays like but the videos he's posted on YouTube sound fantastic.

I was in the process of ordering one of these, but I got sideswiped by an AVRI P that came up for sale on here. I'm still not entirely sure that was the right decision, but you pays your money ...

As I said, not exactly great value for money, but I guess once you get over £1k you're talking very small increments in actual/perceived quality.

Having said that, its by far the easiest bass to play that I've ever had, and I've had quite a few over the years.

I prefer the look of the AVRI 70's (something or other) Jazz, and maple boards look a bit meh to me, but having played and rehearsed with this its been somewhat of a revelation.

Signatures are also a bit icky generally IMO, but nobody complains about all and sundry playing Les Paul signature guitars now do they ? ;-)

Just waiting for some smartarse to start shouting for YYZ or Tom Saywer at our next gig

An AVRI '62 Precision for you. (and a rather fetching rug)

Has a somewhat challenging nut width, but that's offset by a truly wonderful House of Tone pickup. The original fell apart during a setup, and the raised poles where annoying me so off it went to pickup heaven

Absolutely nails that P sound I've had in my head since I first heard Queen in the 70's.

Nitro finish has very slight checking in places, and over all bass looks much older than it actually is without looking like a relic.

I find it a wee bit tricky to play for anything other than simple rock/blues due to the size of the neck and my mangled hands, but its so worth it. Totally fits in with the band I'm in.

Currently considering flat wound brands ;-)

Id go secondhand, much more bang for the buck, you need to be patient though.

Having said that Anderton's have USA Dimensions for under a grand currently. That's a lot of bass for the money.

Ahh, sub £1000 category, this may be too budget then.

I got bullied into playing a 6 string Shine bass at a rather packed jam night recently. Which was terrifying as I'd never played one before.

It was pretty decent tbf, neck wasn't insanely wide, spacing seemed normal ish, heavy though.

Shine are at the budget end no ?

I couldn't fault it at all other than having too many strings ;-)

So, having sold my USA standard to fund an AVRI Precision, I realised how much I missed Jazz necks, especially as the AVRI P has rather a lot of girth in the neck department.

After a month or so of fruitless searching for an AVRI jazz neck I happened upon a USA geddy which was being sold as ex demo for a rather heafty discount.

I'm not particularly a fan of maple necks, black bssses or signature models in general, but the teenage Rush fan in me kept saying go and try it, so I did, fell in love with it and bought it.

The neck is incredible, perfect shape for me, on the deeper side but thin at the nut. The attention to detail on the binding, especially around the nut is just stunning. Fretwork is top drawer, makes my 2002 Gibson SG look like it was done by a five year old. Action is on the stupidly low side but is something I'm toying with keeping to try and learn to have a lighter touch.

Sounds pretty much as you'd expect, and I'm not a massive fan of that sound, but it's early days ...

Is it worth the extra premium over a standard ? Probably not, nor the new professionals I'd imagine. Does it work for me
? Absolutely yes, best bass I've ever owned and I'm lucky enough to have owned some pretty decent ones.

Stupidly expensive for what it is, and the signature on the headstock is a bit meh, but the neck, oh my lord !

Quite literally brand new. It's slightly deeper than the last ones and somewhat frustratingly doesn't fit in my storage area and as such needs to go !
