  1. Guys, really appreciate all your comments here.
A good mate of mine runs a DB751 with an 8x10" (a rig which I used this Summer in Las Vegas - killer!) or 4x12" for his tour rig but for his smaller stuff he rocks an AG500, 112&112NT. Another mate goes DB751 with a 4x10" & 1x15" on the road but an AG500 and 1x15" at home.
I do love the idea of a pair of 12"s.
You've all been a great help.

  2. If it's got an extension speaker output it's a 7215. A 715 hasn't got an extension out.
Original 715s were 100w, then 130w (no DI out) 715 means 7 band graphic, 15" combo. 7215 means 7 band graphic, 200 watts, 15" combo.
    If it's got a 12 band it's called a 1215 ie 12 band graphic, 15" combo.
An SM , SMX or SMC is a different type of preamp, incorporating multiple preshapes, valve preamps (SMX), compressors etc
As it happens a 7 band 4x10" is a 7410, a 12 band version is a 1210 (add SM, SMC, SMX depending). 2x10"s were different again.
I could go on but I'd only bore you! You've probably got a 7215.
Trace only went to the wide body combos when they started SM and SMX preamps in about '93-'94.
I used to sell dozens of the bleeding things!
    Hope this helps.

  3. Hi guys and girls,
I've copied this from the normal amps section, since people selling Aggy cabs might well have a valid opinion too.
Nick Owen here - I've never really said hello. I used to work in the Wapping Bass Centre back in the day and I mostly play for a living nowadays although I'm still embroiled in the MI industry part-time.
I need a few opinions please; I've had pretty much all the best known gear over the years; Trace SMX, Hartke, SWR, Boogie, Eden and for the last 15 years have been well into my Ashdown. I still get it supplied for tours with an 810 but for my own band I've most recently been using an Aguilar AG500 with a Bag End S-15B and an Ashdown 4x8, both reconed with Neo drivers.
The thing is, it's time to upgrade my cabs and I'd like to go Aguilar.
I'm quite into compact, I do like a 15", I'm not a massive fan of tweeters but I'm open to suggestions. It's gotta be Chocolate Thunder!!
    I was thinking DB410, a 212 or 112&112NT or even just getting a single 15.
I used to love my old Henry 8x8", I thought the old Hartke 410XLs we're killer too. My Bag End's beautifully voiced but it's a shade quiet.
I don't mind a single cab; it's just gotta be clean and round sounding.
Anyone got a strong feeling about the Aggys?
    Thanks in advance.
    Nick

  5. Take it easy fella.
I didn't say Laklands were going to be worse.
John Pirruccello is the guy who's looking after the company now; he's a good bloke.
I used to import Lakland for the UK direct and after that I distributed them too.
They're great basses; Jimmy's is a great example.
    It's immaculate, it's used and it's a good price.
    Well worth buying.

  6. Well Lakland aren't the same firm anymore - there was a bit of a change of management last year - I believe Dan Lakin's no longer involved.
Most of the products are changing name; so in that respect what they make in the future will be different.
And, of course, there's the issue of the Bartolinis too.
Jimmy's bass is a killer though, regardless.

  7. Those dates are really nice; that's about the time Bernard & Nile were recording Diana Ross' 'Diana' album; Upside Down, I'm Coming Out, My Old Piano etc.
A great time period for funky bass!
Things are starting to ease up a little; I've sold a Stingray5 fretless and a '78 Jazz; when the '78 P goes I might well hang onto this.
I'm keeping my '69 & '75 Jazzes, my '73 P and my Stingray5. Still a pile of basses but I do use all of those for specific things!
