1. As is fashionable in January sale price £650
 2. Hi I've put it on the scales and it reads around 4kg, I'm not convince that's very accurate though. It feels a touch lighter than my 4 string stingray which there web site says 4.22kg which does tie in with the scales measurement so I'll say 4kg ish but cant guarantee it. It does hang on a strap nicely and I've never notice it being heavy but I wouldn't say it was a light bass either, all subjective of course. hope this helps
 3. For Sale Ampeg SVT4 pro amp head £650 (+ p&p at cost if required). Bought for £1299 around 2 years ago with original packaging instructions and bridged speaker lead. Its done around 8 gigs and spent its life in a flight case so will probably have the usual screw marks when I take it out of its existing rack. Bad back and in ear monitors make this surplus to requirements Free 4 unit full ally flight case if posting is not required.. I'll post photos of actual amp if anyone wishes. I am from the Rotherham area South Yorkshire but I travel to Kent every few weeks so within reason or a little petrol money I could deliver between Yorkshire and Kent or the London area. In true Ampeg tradition, the SVT-4 PRO offers you more power, performance and flexibility than any other bass amplifier in its class. SVT-4PRO offers an expansive palette of tonal options. The Frequency control allows you to select the center frequency for the Midrange control, giving you five distinct voicing options for the Midrange. And if that’s not enough, you can use the 9-Band Graphic EQ to fine-tune your sound—or use it to set up a footswitchable “second channel” with a volume boost for your bass solo. SVT-4PRO is designed for the player who wants SVT tone and performance (with a few modern enhancements) in a convenient, high-powered, rackmount design. With a huge diverse group of artist endorsements, including Tony Levin (Peter Gabriel/King Crimson), Cliff Williams (AC/DC), Rex Brown (Pantera/Down) and far too many others to list here, the SVT-4PRO is a clear favorite among professionals. In the world of high performance bass amps, the Ampeg SVT-4PRO has what it takes to really define your sound.

1/4" and Neutrik Speakon® Outputs
Input Peak LED
Defeatable Optocoupler Limiters
Variable Internal 24 dB/Octave Crossover
Variable 0 - 7:1 Compressor
4.
Hey guys, I just have to chime in - and can be corrected if I am wrong - but if you are wanting a Steve Harris bass tone, you need neither a Pod or a Sansamp. Steve played a large part of his career with just a Trace Elliot preamp, straight in to power amps and then 4x12 cabs with EV speakers in right? No modelling or crazy gubbins. So I'd say, the only think you might want in the set up you have already to add the signature clicky top end might be a graphic equaliser pedal. The P Bass with an SD pickup like Steves will do the rest for ya! - Turn it up loud and play lightly.
I pretty much agree with this, I've had a sansamp and its nothing like the steve harris sound, I've never heard bout him using Trace pre amps though, everything I've read says Hiwatt 200watt amps but he has them custom made as they not made anymore. Anyway not wanting to get into a steve harris gear thread I'd say your speaker and amp should be just about right on ther own kept fairly flat with a little mid scooped out. Steady with the bottom end so the clank comes through with adding treble. If you really want that sound I strung an old P bass copy with his signiture flat wound strings. Now thats a big part of his sound although it takes some getting use to, his style/sound make so much more sense as they're like rods of steel and respond to a very low action and light touch steve has.
 5. For Sale one 5 string Sandberg Basic Ken Taylor Bass guitar with Bubinga top + Sandberg soft case Only (reduced)£800 This is a German hand made 5 string bass I custom ordered around 3 years ago. Unfortunately I've spent too many years playing 4 string and can't just get used to the 5th string so with sadness its got to go. It is in excellent condition, has hardly been played and only done one gig. It plays excellently and has a very versatile tone from stingray tone to P bass tones and much in between. It has a nice warm tone when set flat but can easily go very aggressive or scooped or reggae tone with the active 3 band eq. Controls are volume, pickup pan, bass, mid, treble and single/double coil switch Sandberg is an excellent company and when I ordered it through Electro Music they sent through pictures of a choice of wood tops with different grains and patterns to choose from. Every Bubinga top is very different making this pretty much a unique bass For detailed specs go to http://www.sandberg-...es-top/basic-kt For magazine review go to http://www.sandberg-...d=46&format=raw Viewing welcome, please pm/email to arrange I am from the Rotherham area South Yorkshire but I travel to Kent every few weeks so within reason or a little petrol money I could possibly deliver or arrange viewing between Yorkshire and Kent or the in London area. Please email to discuss
 6. Hi just as an addition I use Caig's Deoxit D5 as recommended in sound on sound mag. It's a bit pricey but has saved no end of pots other cleaners couldn't. They recommend it because unlike other cleaners it leave no residue (the residue can cause dust to stick make the problem return) It certainly did cure the same prob on my ashdown and its still good 2 years later.
 7.
...so you've still got two 8 ohm cabs with differnt power usages due to the physics of shifting different volumes of air. What seems to be implied on the talkbass forum is that an optimal system should have different impedance 4x10 so they both have matched response, i think. I'm starting to lose the plot a little now, I have to admit.
the wattage stated on the cab is not usage but the max its is designed to take when both cabs are the same impedance and the amp puts out say 200watts, 100watts goes to each cab. arguably the 4x10 will have a larger surface area than a single 15 so may move more air ie sound/volume slightly. Its one of those debates than can go on and is really personal preference. i dont think theres much in it but asuming you're are stacking the cab the bottom one will sound different/bassier as its nearer the floor probably making up for any differences. As you can see I could go on waffling but i really wouldn't worry bout it. Main thing is making sure the cabs impedance is ok for the amp and the power is rated above the output of the amp or at least the same so you don't over power them. I think they're making a point thats worth a technical debate but in reality lifes too short to worry bout it. for further reading on imprdace and wattages check out this page http://wiki.basschat.co.uk/info:amps:impedance_and_wattage
 8.
On the other forum there's an interesting debate going on about using 410 and 115 cabs together. Due to different power demands, people are saying they should be different impedance, as it takes different energy to drive 4 x 10" speakers than it does one 15" speaker. If thats the case then why do all the major companies sell same impedance 410's, 210's and 115's, designed to be used in pairs? Who is correct?
Regarding the impedance issue the quick answer is they are both possible as long as they don't go lower than the minimum amp impedance (usually 4ohm sometimes 2ohms). Manufacturers will eg sell 2 x 8ohm cabs for a 4 ohm minimum amp so the full power of the amp can be used (this assumes wiring is in parallel as normal) It complicates things if you started using different impedances. A 4ohm and a 8ohm combination will give around 2.6 ohm which is below the 4ohm minimum. If your amp only goes to 4ohm you'll need a 16ohm and a 8ohm to give 5.3 ohm. Manufacturers would not want to complicate this by advising or explaing the different impedances Personally for a 500W rms 4 ohm min amp i'd use a 250W rms 8ohm 15" and a 250W upwards 8ohm for the the 4x10. Then your lowest wattage 15 cab would be ok and the 4x10 although possibly over spec'ed would also be ok. Your amp would also be able to be used fully with max headroom/efficiency/volume as required.
 9. yes i change mine every week. I'm in two bands one a 4 piece so i use a lot more mid with the bridge p/u and really digging in on my stingray the other is a 6 piece where i have to fit in with 2 guitars and keys so a different tone is needed with a lower tight sound and use my sandbergs both p/u like a Jazz i never get bored of my sound. Just change it around now and again it keeps you fresh
 10.
when did you last see a musicman that looked like a tele?
well if you squint and cover one eye its a bit like one of these http://www.music-man.com/instruments/basse...iversary-5.html but i was thinking something from the past
 11. Hi can anyone identify what this bass is being played by Cass from Skunk Anansie in 97 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lEnM9eoCeWQ thought it might be a musicman until i saw the head stock cheers
 12. thanks, seems the best advise is dont think you know more than Mr trace elliot
 13. Hi all, i've just joined this 'ere forum thing to ask the great fountain of knowledge (bass wise anyway) your opinion. I've just got a new band with decent transport so I got hold of a old trace elliot 4 x 10 and the small 1 x15 cheap with the idea of upgrading the speakers as they are a bit tired and not powerfull enough. i was thinking of upgrading them to the celestion neodymium orange series as i like a well defined bass sound and there description sound right to me. link to description of celestion orange speakers As I'm stuggling to getting hold of any, i'd thought i'd see what you guys reckon. Ideally i'd want a 400watt 15'' 8ohm and 4 x 100 - 200 watt 10'' 32 or 8 ohm speakers preferably neodymium thanks for yer hopefully impending help
