1. Hey everyone

Going through a post-xmas clearout....so, I have a Hercules GS414B for sale. It's been hardly used, never left my flat so it's in great condition.

I'm looking for £15 if you are able to collect it in person from central London, otherwise I can post it for an extra £[s]5[/s]. [edit] £13 (just checked the weight and dimensions and it falls under "large parcel" so it is way more expensive to post than I initially thought !)

Cash in hand or paypal is fine.

I haven't included pics as it's a basic item, the box has some scratches, etc, but the stand itself is mint :) I can post some if you really want.

The specs can be found here: http://www.herculess...ars/GS414B.html

Cheers

I have schecter stiletto 5sring. Very metal.awesome bass
yeah, that's one in the top of my list, but 4 string version. which stiletto precisely? how does it play, etc?

Then I'd say get the RockBass Corvette, and do indeed get the active version in your case.
As said before: it's a beast - not too far removed from even the Bongo, the beasts' beast.
At the price, even new, I feel it's a steal. The only drawback I can find is that the body wood is relatively soft and thus more easily dented than the expensive ones.
It gave me a kick that straight out of the box it was almost perfectly tuned and well set up..

best,
bert

that one's on the table as well, though i'm more inclined to get something cooler visually..

3. had a TBird before, though a normal one, the Pro looks sexy, but not really what i had in mind.

the vampyre is a bit out of my budget i'm afraid

the SG is not really an option

I know there are always loads of options available on gt and ebay, hence this thread...i've always been a passive fender basses type of guy so i wanted to experiment with other stuff.

A Rockbass Corvette has so much bottom end you'll blow doors off.

Although what you really want is a P bass, you know you do :D
it's on my list actually ;)...just parted with one. but fancy trying something different for now...the P can wait

Is there a Yamaha BB with that spec in your price range? They're great things.
.i know the BB414 at least is not active i don't think. and are ugly as f**k imo...and huuuuuuge., but to the PJ thing pretty well.

5. Right, I fancy getting a (cheap) active bass. I usually play a Jazz, so I would like something quite different. I must admit I'm quite lost with so much stuff to choose from so any help much appreciated.

Style of playing: mostly fingerstyle but some songs with pick. No slap/pop stuff.
Genre: heavy rock/metal.
Budget: max £250 - second hand
Criteria: Active, 4 strings, must have a deep thunderous bottom end, and ideally have different/distinctive looks.

More visually appealing options:
Schecter Stilleto (or another model? - the Chaos seems a bit 'too normal')
Traben - some are a bit cheesy but some youtube clips sound good & looks different
Kramer Disciple - specs look great on paper and looks cool
Dean (Edge model, but which one?)

More visually boring options imo:
Ibanez GSR200 (yes, really - at least the youtube clips sound pretty good!..though it might feel really cheap) or SR300
Yamaha RBX374
SBMM SUB Ray4 - not crazy about typical stingray tone tbh, but heard some good stuff lately played with a stingray, so might as well give it a chance.

Not very familiar with these, but seem to fit the criteria:
ESP LTD (no idea which model!?)
Cort (Artisan or Action?)
Warwick Rockbass (Streamer or Corvette?)

6. I used to use the ER-20's but have now changed to these http://www.proplugs.com/musicandnoise.shtml

The effect is similar, but the fit is MUCH better and the price is great.

7. ...with a good price.

Looking to record 4 or 5 tracks, as cheaply as possible but with some quality (budget can be discussed, depending on numerous factors). Ideally, mixing and mastering would be included in the price, but again, it's a matter of discussing prices.

Experience of recording rock/metal/punk bands would be beneficial. Looking for a 'big' sound without breaking the bank...not an easy task I know.

All suggestions welcome :)

EDIT: budget around £800

Try getting a POD, Sansamp or another kind of preamp. That could sort your problems out since generally if you're just DI'd, it's a bit of a boring tone.
this. how can you expect a jazz to sound the way you want just DI'd? Not gonna happen. I run mine through a Hartke VXL pedal pre-amp/DI and it sounds pretty good, it's not has thumphy as a P but certainly sounds good enough for rock. There is no comparison to the 'clean' sound of the J bass. Heavy gauge strings also help. I play 110 elites and they do help getting a thicker tone.

9. Got confirmation, it is actually an Affinity series. How much would you pay for this?

True. But it does blur the boundaries somewhat as you now have Squiers selling at similar prices to "genuine" Fenders. Or whatever passes for a "genuine" Fender these days!
I agree, you can get Squiers w great quality, some better than Fenders, bla bla bla...but it is what it is, it will always be...a Squire
I just recently sold a MIM P on Gumtree for £300, then went out an bought a VM Jazz 5 string :)
see what I mean...£300 for a MIM, that's a sweet sale that is. you went for a different bass though, would you honestly pay £300 for your used MIM P?

11. what do you think of this?

http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/squire-p-bass-fender-black-wtortoiseshell-pick-guard-seymour-duncan-quarter-pounders-badass-bridge/101652852

I was looking to stick a QP pickup anyway, but it looks like a beaten up affinity series
