1. this week so far... vengence & notice me by new model army - been meaning to get these sussed for ages!, desperado by alice cooper, stratus by b.colham and beggin by 4 seasons (last 2 for a function type gig...could be worse). cheers
 2. oops also worth keeping in mind that you can get student discounts if purchasing from apple...about 10% if memory serves. cheers
 3. can vouch for the aluminium ones. Dropped mine loads of times, loads of dents and still works solid. If you check ebay you can also find clear heavy duty plastic outer cases. Not personally noticed a lot of difference between usb 2 and firewire ports when using external storage but would have to agree with ~tl on the interface point and on using external HDs... dam unstable if using internal for audio tracks although stable enough if just using midi in my experience. also worth keeping an eye on this site which gives hints and advice on mac release dates i.e. if certain models may be near end of production...nothing worse than buying one and 2 weeks later an updated version comes out ! 4. Guess i look at it in an opposite way must admit I recently bought a modern £800 ish bass because I ended up paranoid about using vintage basses for pub gigs & rehearsals & didn't want to trash them further, know what you mean about shiny new custom ones though.
A related question: Do those of you with really expensive basses actually gig them? I don't think I'd want to take a bass worth £1000+ out to a pub gig. I suppose with vintage gear it's a bit different, because I wouldn't mind if it picked up a few scrapes, but a shiny new quilt-topped thing with matching wood knobs wouldn't look too clever with big dings in it.
8. worth checking out "highrise" by hawkwind, love the use on it cheers stuart
After pissing around with some effects on my pod, coming across the flangers and phasers intrigued me a bit. This is because, I can't recall hearing any of these effects in bands i listen to and i would really like to know how you think you should use them - in a piece of music? or, why you use them in songs. Give me some ideas. Alex
9. is the spot still empty ? if so kill to try...glasgow based, own transport, gear and big time Alice fan...started playing as a result of dennis and mates needing a bass player believe it or not!.....another reason i went for a 60s EB and a jazz ! cheers
