1.
Cobblers. I know - I've played one.
Indeed. Also, Howard the Bass Doc's Fender 2x15 is a seriously trebly cab. Bite-tastic.

  2. Even longer shot... :)

Once my ACG arrives (tomorrow), I may be tempted to part with my fretless SR5. It's lined, and there's no piezo, but the board's ebony. Polyester-coated ebony, in fact. Check it out in my porn thread.

Yes, it's a really long shot!

  3. Try www.ehx.com for video demos of each pedal. That should give you an idea of what each one sounds like, and they usually talk you through the controls and give demonstrations of how each one affects the effect.

  4.
That's the one. £900 I think it was dropped to. Silly money for a bass like that. If it had 19mm string spacing I'd get my credit card out now! :)

    EDIT: That one - http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=900797
Yep, it's a beauty. Right up my street with the looks. The 17mm spacing I don't mind, but I'm really at home on 33" scale now. Going back to 34" is a real headf*** for quite a while, so I'd be mis-fretting all over the shop on that one. Even more so than usual.

EDIT: Oh, and the Graft Plus line that Alan's going to be producing occasionally might prove taxing on the wallet too. Check out the current offering and the general spec and prices.

  5.
I had my eye on the 6 string he had up as a stock bass... That's a lot of bass for what Alan's asking.
The Recurve singlecut? Hell yes. If I hadn't bought the Skelf 5 from the same batch of stock basses (and with this one on the way), that 6er would have been mine. Alan's basses just do something to me. It's like they're hypnotic.

BUY ME... BUY ME... PLAY ME... PLAY ME... COMMISSION ANOTHER ONE...

  6. Thanks, Eude. I'm dead chuffed with the way it's turned out, and I can't wait to meet it in the flesh. Simple and understated, just like me.

And I'm already starting to think about a fretted companion... :) We need some sort of "ACG Anonymous" organisation. Scoop would be the group leader, of course. :)

  7. Last thing to arrive was my TC Electronic Nova Dynamics pedal from the sale forum here. Fabulous multi-band compression. Just what I was after.

Arriving over the next few days should be a matching Nova Reverb pedal, Logarhythm wooden footblock thingie and... my ACG Recurve 5.

And then I hope I'm set for a very long time, because I've spent a s***load of money recently. :)

  8.
The trouble is, isn't the super 8 pickup the whole selling point of Enfield. Who would buy one otherwise?
Hmmm, indeed. I'm sure they're beautifully constructed and finished instruments (if a little bulbous around the lower bout for my liking), but yes, you'd probably only really buy one for the electronics.

I say this having never even been in the same room as one. :) Could be the bass of my dreams in terms of playability, but at the same sort of pricetag that could get you a pair of matching fretted and fretless ACGs (for example), it'd just continue to be the bass of my dreams.

  9.
Oh heck. I think these 'price points' have become quite a heated debate!
At least twice a month.

I just keep a bag of popcorn next to my computer these days.

  10.
Black nylons are as different as I go
Y'know, my mind went in quite the wrong direction there...

...or at least I'm assuming it's the wrong direction. :)

  11.
Love that.
    Thanks.
+1. Fabulous.

Have I wittered on about Arve Henriksen yet?
    http://open.spotify.com/album/7aBn46Rq8GP3zEGl6qY4dQ
I saw him at the Sage Gateshead a few years back as part of the Gateshead Jazz Festival. I knew nothing about him before I entered the room, and I felt like a different person when I came out. Such intensely beautiful and haunting music, just from a guy with a trumpet and a voice (and a friend with a bunch of electronics, of course :) ).

  12.
Are you collecting in person? It's a lovely part of the world :)
Oh, I know. I ordered in person. Alan's a lucky fella living in such a beautiful spot. Well... he assured me it was beautiful. It was actually bastarding it down when I was there, with the hills shrouded in a dense fog. But no, I can't see me getting up there any time soon, so it looks like it'll be in the hands of TNT. :) It's not too far for it to come anyway. The "local" TNT depot's in Carlisle, which isn't that far south of Moffat. The local driver's a good guy too, and the Carlisle depot is used to handling valuable instruments, what with Overwater being in town. Fingers crossed.

  13.
I'm hoping so. Alan reckoned around the end of the month, but I think he might be concentrating on some stock basses and Grafts to get ready for Bass Day in a couple of weeks. I'm in no hurry.
And no sooner did I say that than Alan emailed me to say the bass is essentially finished. Just final setup and preamp tweaks and we're good to go!

    :)

  14.
How'd I miss this update?
    Looking incredible dude.
New Bass Day soon then? :)
I'm hoping so. Alan reckoned around the end of the month, but I think he might be concentrating on some stock basses and Grafts to get ready for Bass Day in a couple of weeks. I'm in no hurry.
Real pretty. Lovely neck!
Thanks! I think Alan's got the proportions just right in the neck. Just the right amount of limba vs wenge.

  15.
The neck plate looks pretty bespoke. :)
Dunno... looks like something someone's bodged together to align with existing neck holes. Gah, I don't know. I'm probably just being far too cynical.

All I know is that if I tried to build a bass, this is exactly the sort of monstrosity that would result.
