We made two versions. One with the speaker sim defeat and one without. My suggestion is to plug a 1/4" cable into the effects send and from there into an amp or mixer. Turn the switch on and off and listen for a change.

Yeah mine has the defeat switch

No, it is after the speaker sim.

If the effects loop is after the speaker sim, how does the speaker sim defeat button effect the effects loop.
as I understand it, the speaker sim defeat only effects the line/amp out and not the di? If this is the case the defeat must be before the effects loop no?

I already own 3 Retrovibe basses and he keeps putting up pictures of others to tempt me! Good bloke to deal with.

can I hijack this a little and ask for your opinion on Retrovibe basses? I’m guessing as you own 3 you like them. Just asking as I’ve been looking at his recent builds and they look great.

"Would anyone know of a commercially available standalone cab that is less wide than your bog standard 19"?"

The ABM210 compact is either 21" or 24" depending on how you stack or carry it and isn't likely to be any better as a stand alone cab than my present TC RS210!

Head in the picture is 18.5” and I’m sure the cabs are the same, looking at the photo.
The cab dimensions you’re looking at include the rubber feet which I’ve relocated to the bottom.

  5. This is why I’ll stick with Ashdown. I send a second hand ABM500 evo2 to him as it had an intermittent fault where it was cutting sound to the speakers.
sent it to Dave, tested it, couldn’t find the problem so stripped out and fully replaced the power amp section along with all the front panel controls.
amp is essentially new now and sounds amazing.

Stack the 15 atop the 4x10 where you will be able to hear it's cries of pain as it fails to keep up with the far more able 4x10.

is that with reference to it being rated at 200watts?
i thought that was odd. My Ashdown 1x15 is 500 so if I used the 410he, that’s what it’ll be paired with.

I really like the idea of the cab-sim DI, great get a really near approximation of your on-stage sound through FOH. Am assuming Ashdown have voiced it like their own cabs (which I really like).

User manual says "tuned to mimic the response of the ABM cabs".  Obviously its not IR, so not sure how much it will sound like the real thing.

  8. Agree. Think Ashdown missed a trick on their latest Tube Preamp. Speaker sim DI outputs are common place now. Even if it is analogue, it’s a good feature that can’t be that expensive to implement.

It's post SansAmp circuit and Level control. You should only put post amp type of effects like delay, reverb EQ. Do not put compressors, OD , fuzz in the loop.

brilliant. So it’s pretty much last aside from speaker sim. 👍

out of interest why wouldn’t you run a compressor in there?

Like the idea of the analogue cab sim on the DI, tempted

Agree. It is only EQ at the end of the day but it’s a useful addition.

Close your eyes or look away from it and do your settings by ear, not with your eyes.

Yeah sure I'm all for that, but there's a ton of tonal variation on it so a built in pre set or someone else's tone as a starting point might be worth pursuing..

Or you could just tweak til you're happy with your sound.

True, but the manual is useful for the character knob. I’ve not used it yet but I’m going to reset to the original 6 presets and start from there.
