  1. Ive got some ernie ball cobalt flat wounds on my bass at the minute that cost a decent whack and I love them.  My first experience using flat wounds in 20+ years of playing they've been on for about a year and sound fantastic.  But I want to try some other strings for a while to see if it suits the band I've joined so I'm going to remove the flat wounds and just keep them til I get a second bass or want to use them again.  Should I boil them before I store them or is that not a good idea for flat wounds???  They are visibly dirty but ive always read that you treat flat wounds differently?

Aw man. Does that mean I could have problems? I used to use an ampeg pf350, and then a pf500 through the cab I have now and never ran into problems. I can't remember from memory but I'm not sure if I've ever put 500w through it. Does the hartke lh500 run at 500w with a single 8ohm cab? Or is that it's 4ohm output?

  3. Hey,

Hope somebody can help.  I'm looking at purchasing the hartke lh500 amp head to run in an ashdown ABM 1x15 cab for regular gigging.  My questions are, with the amp being rated at 1000w and my speaker being rated at 600w. Will this amp damage my speaker?

Also, I've seen a lot of people online complaining that they're really heavy yet the online specs state it weighs 10kg? Is this correct?

  4. Just a quick question, I know these are a new product so generally people might not have much experience with them. But they seem fantastic when looking at the specs, and especially the price @£300.

My question is, would this cab be a budget/naff sounding cab hence the price? Ive used ABM range before and thought they were really good. This is cheaper than what I used previously, but better specs. Too good to be true?

But their so cheap! Think they sound naff??

  7. Its not that i dont like the sound/tone that the cab is giving me, it jus seems like a lot of the sound is real low frequency that doesnt seem to travel across a room like it should. To me, this is great cause you can often 'feel' the bass while im playing but i was recommended a 2x10 cab to add definition, rather than change the sound.

Also, thinking about it, how is 250w coming out of two speakers louder than 350w coming out of one? Seems odd? Would a single 4ohm cab be louder than 2x 8ohm cabs?

  8. Hey,

Wondering if someone could help with this.

I have an Ampeg portaflex 500 head, which is currently pushing 350w through my 8ohm 600watt ashdown abm115 cab. If i was to add another 8ohm cab, the head would be pushing 500w through 4 ohm, correct? My question is, what should the minimum wattage on my new cab be in order for the setup to have no problems?

    Hope this made sense,

    Ta
