While I really like the RD "shape", I've heard stories about the weight of the originals. And this re-issue, with the maple body.... I'm smelling a 12lb bass!!!! We'll find out as soon as sweetwater get 'em in stock and weigh one, I 'spose. ;)

to be honest i think my original is 11lbs but i love the weight, it sits there and i play it,  it doesnt move, it doesnt feel like a cheap piece of wood,  its perfect

  2. good to see them back,
    my gripes tho-
-rosewood fretboard looks bad on both, a maple of the natural, and ebony on the black would be much better. but i guess they are money saving
    - stock pickups used on the EB bass and thunderbird 2015, they look crap
    - the preamp is probably nothing special.
    - the knobs looks out of place, but thats easily changed.

iv never really been a fan of the small headstock they use at the moment tho, doesnt looks right.

  3. when i was 14 i scored a gibson g3 off german ebay for £350.

stupidly a year or so later i swapped it at a shop for a burns bison.... huge mistake!

but 3 years or so ago i saw it on ebay in this country and just had to buy it back, even tho it was twice what i paid before.
and sadly the original hard case had disappeared down the line.

i found the bloke who owned it between me owning it, on youtube, as he put a few vids up with it, but he hasnt logged in for years, and thus not replied to any messages. :(

  4. you could try and find an epiphone classic pro thunderbird,
Its got gibbo pickups, and the body and neck are gibson style.

so you pretty much getting a gibson for a 3rd of the price.
maybe that would even leave you with enough to buy a PJ as well!

Just out of curiosity are there any steam engine enthusiasts on here, or just me?

I've not been lucky enough to play at GDSF yet but regularly attend as an exhibitor

    dno bout the quality tho.
My epiphone t bird case is basically falling to bits after light use since january.
gotta love that super thin chinese ply

  7. Hey guys

our band is going to italy to play some gigs in august, and i want to take my gibson RD
Given its age im reluctant to take it in its old hard case, especially going by sleazyjet

are there any general cases on the market that it might fit in?
Maybe one that could be sued for my tbird, and G3 as well?

It wont fit a tbird case BTW.

    cheers

  8. ebay a micrometer.

    older the better!
i have plenty of old tools when i do model engineering. and they are always far superior to anything you buy new

digital calliper is usually accurate to 0.001", providing you have zero'd it properly
