5. SOLD off-forum 90's I think Very clean, only used indoors Maple neck/through stringing Although I love this bass I love my 1970 Precision a little bit more so regrettably there's only room for one classic Fender on my wall Purchased from Jazz (Dunetune) in Spring 2009 Asking £550 - c/w case, currently in Aberdeen /happy to organise delivery at cost
6.
Excellent! Was it the Sally Army?
That's the strange thing - no obvious external signs, it...just ... suddenly ... appeared Mind you , years later I met some guys who were speaking about the time their dad joined in with us at a gig, and before I could launch into a full-on assault they told me that it was one of his fondest memories... it basically reinforced what loads of folk are saying here - people get different things from the music !
7. I'd rather have them not noticing than suddenly producing tambourines and joining in - which did once happen at an otherwise perfectly normal gig
8. Any workshops or other events happening mid June?
9. The strap pin on my 1970 P has popped out - the wood seems a little soft in the area and I am sceptical about replacing it - the idea of relying on a screwed-in pin particularly when it's straight into the wood seems wrong to me - is there an alternative... I was wondering about getting a threaded catcher of some kind which I could glue or otherwise mount more securely into the body which would spread the load a bit
10.
Hmmmm, I don't play that much anymore, but at band practice last night I got to have a go on the bass with my pedalboard, and the slap tone was amazing. That's some compression blended with some OD limited and blended with some clean. So much punch, but the hard attack of the slap gets eaten by the OD and limiting which makes it bite loads without the peaks, which in turn means you can actually hear the notes and note just clunk clank clunk clank. I guess if you're into clean sounds then you should be able to get the tone with just touch control alone, although that must take a fair ammount of practice!
I'm a bear of little brain when it comes to fx etc - my usual policy is to wind the treble up as high as it goes and I find I need to slap pretty hard to get the effect I am looking for ! - my EHX pedal arrived today and I'll road test it at the weekend and feedback next week
11.
If it's mid song that you change styles, then I was gonna suggest a volume pedal, but that EHX thingy looks to be the biz. If it's not mid song then I'm sure the volume knob on the bass could be used to good effect
It's generally mid song so the volume knob is a bit too random - have ordered an EHX so will see how we get on Thanks for the input
12.
The simplest solution is set the gain of your amp playing slap. Alternatively, you can use this.
That's probably what I need - at £35 it's worth a punt Thanks !
13. On the rare occasions when a bit of slap is called for I find I have to quickly adjust the volume output of my bass to a lower level to avoid overdriving This is quite tricky - and I wonder if I should be using either a pedal or maybe some kind of compressor/limiter to achieve my goal - does anybody have any suggestions? - I don't generally have much time to set-up in a gig and I am attracted to a simple stomp box which can be pre-set and left
14. Dare strap arrived within 24 hrs - and it is GREAT the strap is probably a little narrower than I would have bought had it been a single conventional bass strap, but the weight distribution is excellent I haven't gigged it yet but I definately notice the weight being spread much more evenly
15. Brilliant - I think I will Thanks guys
The Dare Strap mentioned is available from Strings Direct - online price £17.95. Looks like it may be worth a try?
16. Has anyone ever come across a double strap which would allow the weight of the bass to be spread evenly over both shoulders - I fear my posture is suffering from long hours holding heavy basses
17. Good advice - I had previously scanned the for sale section but somehow managed to totally miss the many 70's basses that are in there We have agreed a price and all is well
18. After having an extended loan of my mate's 1970 P-Bass I now have the opportunity to buy it... it's been refinished and has had some mods ( xlr on front, hipshot tuner) - plays brilliantly and it is an excellent bass - but I have absolutely no idea of value - any advice?
19. I've gone and bought myself a STAGG EUB - very nice but I just cannot get comfy with the little metal bracket which you are supposed to wedge into your side to brace it ... does anybody know of a tripod which would work - I don't mind modding the tripod or the bass
