.. and courtesy of https://www.basschat.co.uk/tags/hooky_lowdown/, JB-75 neck fitted, v easy to do - screws lined up perfectly 😎

Likewise just had excellent experience with HB Jazz bass neck, good comms, fast and packaged very very well. Thanks v much 👍

I had to change the tuners on my PB-20 when I broke one..... but otherwise good, although my search for an HB Jazz neck as a replacement (without buying the whole kit) seems fruitless, but that's hardly a massive complaint! and EarlPilanz (eBay, Glasgow) makes HB guards to order

Ooo didn’t know about the discount-is there a code or how does it work?

Nope… only stickers and packaging 😟.
did you get the talent/noise t shirt? -
Likewise will see if I got one at weekend….. massive FOMO even though don’t know what I would do with it!

Sounds like Dylan graduated from the Star Trek School of Engineering
Pickup manufacturers build-in shielding, Audio Cable manufacturers likewise, Pedal and Amp makers too ...but that magic region between pickup and jack socket follows special Laws of Physics known only to Dylan and Scotty 😉
Shield & ground the control cavity - with continuity above and below - don't solder to pot cases (prolong their life and reduce probability of dry joints)
"something is gonna end up touching something it shouldn't" is not a valid excuse to ignore something important - it just means people should engage eyes and brain, and think about how to achieve shielding AND insulation - rocket science it ain't (sorry Scotty, RIP)
(FWIW pickups act like half a transformer - more sensitive to magnetic part of EM signals/ interference; control wiring is more sensitive to the Electric part of EMI, ie. ANY unshielded signal wire is an antenna to some frequencies - and the high impedances in the control wiring contribute to that sensitivity)
Just don't use dilithium crystals then,,,?

Success!
I found a very suitable piece of foam to do the job and it's worked almost perfectly. There's still a bit of movement but nothing like before and the height is now adjustable.
I will have to do the same with the neck pup but that can wait for now. Gave the fingerboard a good oiling too as it seemed as dry as a bone.
Excellent 👍🏻

As far as I can remember I think mine had springs but I was remounting my Jazz PUs the same weekend so I may be getting them confused. Either way might help so best wishes!

Could you get some foam under the pickups? Like your Orville - did up my TB up the same way over Gibson black pickups with chrome 😀. And at Jean-Luc, there are some dentist bass players…..

Thanks! Now just need to get to Guildford to try one!

It’s lovely ….. so just to actuate GAS, does anyone have any views around the quality/sound of the current ones on sale ? They have been tempting just from a novelty POV for a while…..

Ok I’ll leave it to you n dude, best wishes

Hi Paul, bloomin' typical! I ordered one last week! but another might not go amiss, depends on where you are in Essex as I have a contact working out that way....
Thanks for your generosity

Looks good! I'm keeping the original to trim to the new plate if want to swap back to the dark side. Great work 😀

OK, so thread resurrection time....
Firstly you'll see the name is no longer correct....
Secondly the black Talman is still all black (at the moment)
Thirdly, @stewblack you'll see there is now some tort in my world, on my HB SBK PB20 (now with quarter pounder and a Gotoh bridge).
Finally, (the whole point of this) light mint green pearl conversion (courtesy of earlpilanz) on fairly recently acquired 96 Jazz from dark pearl (before) to (after) with correct knobs and control plate..... so thanks everyone for the input, got there in the end (and there is a white pearl pickguard ready just in case)!
Now tempted to switch the PU covers on the Tbird to chrome....
