Lovely stuff. Don't mean to hijack the thread but I just posted this on the funk thread, saw this thread and thought you might like it if you haven't heard it before. One of my faves and funky as hell big band shenanigans.

One of my faves since I first heard it over 30 years ago. Still as funky as the day it was recorded

Certain colours may well be discounted quite early in the run too. I got my seafoam green Vintera Mustang a couple of months after release for £599 new when the other finishes were still £799-850 everywhere else.

Flippin' Eck...I love my T'Bird - 2013 model, cost me a grand - blagged a epi EBO for free too. Plays like a dream. It's light, has a neck as slim as my Jazz. Low action with no buzz whatsoever. No neck dive. Bass made for rock my bum -any style welcome. The case smells lovely. No orange peeling. It's great with flats or rounds (virtually no set up necessary between either too). The pickups growl like an angry cat. Not lost any value at all ( just my playing costs). It's a bit of a reach down low but I see that as a healthy positive in my older age. Happy days.......

Great and wholly appropriate theme tune. The whole soundtrack/album is great too.

Welcome mucka!
Just my two penneth if I may. I set up my basses to produce quite a bit of fret buzz when playing acoustically. I play hard like a mountain gorilla and my amplified tone is enhanced by the buzz. I find that amplified buzz (unless it is really too extreme) tends to disappear and translates to a gnarly growly tone which I find intoxicating. I say embrace the buzz and use it to your advantage if you can!!

2013 Thunderbird - flats (only got Olympus or Olympia? long scale at the mo - Tl medium scale on my mustang), front pickup full, back pickup two thirds, a tickle of high mids and treble on the amp. Proper good tone. Nice and woody. I bloody love it. Quite similar to Maccas Rick tone here to be honest.

Straight to Thomann and the Harley Bentons for me. Probably these, with change for a few pints...

"Silly love Songs" makes me smile. The hook is ace and the timing of the notes exquisite.
"Give it up Turn it Loose" makes me sweat pure joy.
"The Who Who Song" has such a cool bassline to play.
I could go on....and on....and.....

I've got flats on my Thunderbird at the moment. Front pickup full, back pickup 2/3rds. Bass flat on the amp with a little tickle of high mids and treble......ooof, what a tone that is - right in the trousers.

One thing I don't get about the flat vs round debate is the thing about flats lasting longer. I mean when rounds get old they sound like flats to me. So, with that in mind, what's the difference between an old round set and an old flat set other than feel and cost of purchase?
I know what you mean. I have the oldest, gnarliest filthiest set of 30 thru 90 rounds on my Thunder II and they sound aged to perfection. However, the relatively new set of Tl flats on my Mustang have the most lovely tone I have ever heard........ I love them both and will never change them. I do like to swap between zingy rounds and thumpy flats on my Precision though, depending on my mood.

Not heard of him. I have now though! Thank you.
It's a pleasure. Good isn't he. Not many people have heard of him though judging by the number of views he gets. Shame if you ask me.

Couldn't agree more. I love my 2013. It's currently wearing flats and sound effing monstrous. I love the newer style pickups - they properly growl at you. Don't know where all the hate comes from.
