Love the Scots. Got treated to bagpipes on an airplane once. LHR to AMS. Second leg of home-and-home Euro qualifiers. The Scots had surprisingly beaten the Orange 1:0 in the first leg. The flight attendants disappeared after the pipes came out over the channel. The Scots lost 6:0.
Wasn't trying to push opera on you. I like the combination of orchestra (symphony), acting (theater) and singing. I think it's all of the theater productions I performed in in my younger days that helped me first enjoy opera.

Wagner is not really my thing, so not, however, I was invited to the whole Ring cycle a couple of years ago at Longborough (an English country opera house). Anything Italian and I am there. Plus most other stuff.
I spend a lot of my summers at The Royal Opera House in London and Garsington and Glyndbourne (both other English country opera houses). Sadly all off due to the lockdown this season. I was supposed to see Tosca with Anna Netrebko a couple of weeks ago, but that was cancelled but also Mitridate re di Ponto (one of Mozart's first operas) at Garsington in a couple of weeks, also cancelled.
I am a Friend (member) of the Royal Opera House and have been for years but not with seats. Have done some European opera houses too in the lasts few years and also the Met in NY (last time was Marriage of Figaro)
The voice that came out of Anna Netrebko in the video was: a) a complete surprise, and b) just simply stunning. Love her voice!

I just can't get into Opera singing at all. It always sounds false to me. Its as if they are putting an accent on to sing.
I enjoy some classical music but gonna have to draw the line at opera singing.
I've heard opera singers do other styles and they have exceptional voices too.
Dave
Opera is best live. Except for the stand-and-sing operas. Those can be dreadfully boring.
Until you've seen a Peter Sellars production, you haven't lived. His production of The Mikado was beyond spectacular. Absolutely faithful to the music, but with lots of theatrical twists. Like opening in a corporate board room instead of 16th century Japan. Or like having an Elvis poster and ghetto blaster in Yum-Yum's bedroom in the second act (now back in 16th century Japan). It was a wonderful experience!

Some of you may know that when I am not playing bass I am an opera nut. Currently listening to these stunning duets. Give them a listen. Stunning simply stunning voices:
Nice to meet another opera fan! I had 2 seats in Box 13 at the Chicago Lyric Opera for years! Have you seen Der Ring des Nibelungen live? It was a bit tough to sit through those 6+ hour performances. And our Brünnhilde was the largest woman I've ever seen on an opera stage...and I've seen a few. Even the 80 year old dowagers I shared the box with got a laugh.

So, how do I justify spending another $350?
Here's how I do it.
Fall in love with one of its expensive big brothers, and then go "What the heck. That one's only $350". 😂
Here's the one I'm lusting after at the moment. Apologies for the knuckleheads in the video.

The Sea Foam Green Pearl is even better looking in person than in the photos. And the photos are gorgeous.
Also, the body contouring makes it very pleasant to play, standing or sitting.
The 5er wasn't available when I bought mine.

Another one blocked in the U.S. 😖

It looks like only regular white set is available in short and medium scales, in addition to long. The copper and gold sets offer long only. You saved me a bunch of searching. Thanks.

The pickups seem fine. I think you'd be better off upgrading the preamp instead.
I agree. I have the 4 string Mezzo. Love it, but really wish it supported passive in addition to the active electronics. I have a set of medium scale GHS Bass Boomers, but am liking the stock strings, so have left them on. I think I paid $300 for it. Schweeeeeeeeeeet. Here's the one I bought from Sweetwater.
EDIT: Can anyone recommend any flat- or tapewound medium scale strings? I'd like to try a set and see what they sound like through that lovely P pup.

More monologue than music but the man has talent.
This is the CD that I currently have on in my Forester!
Somebody ought to chain up the bass player.
Love that line!

I have an opportunity to pick up a short scale Epi EB0 tomorrow for £100 , a 4 hour round trip though by car, so weighing up the options.... I don't really *need* it...
Need? There's no 'N' in GAS.

@TheMaartian the single pickup version had a piezo pickup too but this one does look pretty cool.
I believe that the piezo option is available for any of the pickup configurations (1, 2 or 3).

I’ve looked at premium, do you think it’s worth it.
I'm on YT every day. With just that, heck yeah.
Even better is the YT streaming app on my 4K Fire TV stick. No ad blocker there, so Premium is worth it also for that. I have a decent soundbar on my main TV, so YT concerts (like the recently released to YT David Gilmour Live at Pompeii; excellent on a 65" 4k set!) sound great. Here's the concert from 2016. Set up on YT as a fundraiser with Google matching 2 for 1!

And effin' YouTube fill a fundraiser with ads!
OTH aren't YT part of Google who are matching donations 2:1?
Correct. And I have YT Premium, so didn't see the ads.

David Gilmour just posted the full Live At Pompeii show as a fundraiser for COVID-19 (link on YouTube page).

Here's a video I've posted elsewhere, but it's apropos. I've got both the Rumble 40 combo and 200 combo. If you really want to spend more money, buy the 200. It's sweet. That said, the 40 combo is fantastic for the money. It's even giggable in small venues. It also has a quality (quiet) XLR DI output for recording without a mic. [Note that the DI is post EVERYTHING.] Save the money and spend it on something else. Twice the GAS!

I currently have 34" (Fender Jazz), 32" (Ibanez Mezzo) and 30" (Gibson SG) basses. It's OK to call me confused. 😉
I'm seriously thinking of picking up a Supro Huntington shortie with my "it ain't stimulatin' me" check. Decided to check this thread out and was surprised not to see the Huntington included. Would love your thoughts!

On the original, recorded live by the two bands, one of them was Geddy Lee.
I saw that Rush tour (with Max Webster). It was excellent.
My first Primus experience was them opening for Rush.
I sense a trend!

Same here. I missed it by 87 minutes. At least the replay posted straight away! 😎
What are you listening to right now?

Good idea! I'm thinking a run through Warrior On The Edge Of Time would be most excellent!
