Just been browsing on Gumtree and there's a quite nice looking red semi acoustic bass by Gear4Music for not a lot.
I've seen loads of their gear for not a lot. I accept its probably entry level gear - similar to HB - but the difference in build quality can't be so wide that HB are regarded highly while G4M has seemingly no following.
Does anybody have any experience of G4M gear?
Hi
I've had and own Fenders, Ricky's and Hofners ect and in July went watching Generation Sex at The Apollo in Manchester and was blown away and curious about what their bass player was playing
My post is below (Plus 2 pic's) and you will see the reactions from folk............ Mine was £129 plus a few mods but I'm still gigging it because its light, plays bang on and if it gets nicked or damaged then it's not the end of the world! Mines nicknamed "Ronnie" for obvious reasons

For Precision pickups I aim for the below as a guide, then adjust for the individual bass:
E - 2mm, A - 6mm, D - 7mm, G - 5mm
I`d look at similar "slant" settings on the Jazz pickup.
Mint this

What model SD’s ? The Aguilar P’s are awesome, but with a bit more vintage warmth YMMV
Gone with Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders. I have a Nate Mendel and just found out this is what is fitted on that bass and it sounds ace

Hi all
I have a bass that is a PJ layout and each pick up has it's own volume and tone adjustment
I've ordered a new custom wiring kit (James home of tone) for the controls ect and I'm just about to add new Seymour Duncan quarter pounders
to both the neck and bridge positions
Once I've fitted this lot I'm after a little help to guide me in the right direction to adjust the pick up heights to an optimum height
I know that many people will have different views but please let me have your thoughts on this subject
Thanks in advance
Mike

Need some help. I play in an 80’s band and wait for it… A punk band. I’ve found a set of Seymour Duncan neck and bridge pickups along with an Aguilar set so which one do I buy 🤔😊👍

This whole thread has been brilliant fun. I think Mr James should peel off the sticker and embrace the cheapness!
If it's glued on like mine he's no chance lol. I wonder if he's chosen it or it's been given too him

I think it`s great that Tony James is engaging on this, well done to him - and to you too Mike for this thread.
Thanks Lozz

Some kind of shecter or something from the headstock? I doubt you would be able to tell the difference from one to the other on stage.
It's actually a Gear4Music Chicago which sells at £129!!!! I kid you not I've bought one, restrung it and set it up and its a bit of a gem.... I play punk and used it through a TH500 into 2 TC Electronic RS112's and it sounded mint! My 4003 & my Nate Mendle are getting shelved for a while lol..... Ive added the Ronnie O'Sullivan headstock pic and it now has the racing stripes on it

Have to admit I’m tempted to try the short scale version of this.
You have very little to lose!

It’s arrived. I’ve restrung it (Fender 9050 flats) after adding my Ronnie O’Sullivan pic and it’s all set up with a newly oiled fret board. Guys I’m kinda blown away with this guitar for £129. It’s light, the frets are all rounded off and plugged into my Sansamp RBI it sounds incredible and really Punky. I get why Tony James has chosen this bass to tour with Generation X now. I’ve got some racing stripes on the way and the only thing I’m gonna change are the tuners for a set of Gotoh’s just to have a bit of stability. I own a Ricky, a Nate Mendel and several other bass guitars but I’m gigging this thing tomorrow night and here’s to many more nights with it for a bit of fun. I don’t know what pickups are in this but wow for the money 👏👌👍😂

A great Jack Casady Bass in Alpine white with a fitted case made in Korea in January 2014… Bridge bar mod so it rings like a bell with great sustain and the upper horn has had a strap point added so it sits easy if you have a belly. This has been added with care and with plenty of strength. Fitted with stainless steel Fender 9050 flats on a mint neck. Sounds and plays amazing. Obviously not brand new but in great condition never the less. The case has a support missing but works fine (Has a key with it) This bass can sound like a Precision to a Ricky 4003 so it's very versatile. Collection from north Bolton…. Pleaseget in touch with any questions Mike 07545 145900
