  1. Hey there!

Finally I made a video that can answer some previously asked questions about the sound of Music Man StingRay and Sandberg California TM4.
Please read all the infos about the video on YouTube and let me know what You think :)

    Cheers

  2. After a lot of hours I spent deciding whether to buy an old one from the seventies or a new Special I finally decided, taking into account my experience with vintage old Fenders and new Custom Shops.

I took a new Special and I don’t think I made a mistake. It has everything. Sound, feel and appearance. Craftsmanship is at the level of Fender Custom shop or Sandberg. There are no flaws that have accompanied previous Stingray models and that have separated me from so many pieces I owned.

I am especially happy because I managed to find the color that I like the most and is no longer on offer - Aqua Sparkle :).

  3. Today I tried to remind myself of Teen Town by Jaco Pastorius.

I know I left out a few bars, but I hated playing again because it took me about 15 takes to record anyway, so don’t be too strict :).

I used only humbucker with just a bit of mids added and  old Elixir strings directly into Focusrite.

Hope you all don't mind the thread hijack - thinking of using a Sandberg bridge in my 5 string build. Hoping for some constructive opinions on the Sandberg bridge?

Although it looks fantastic to me, from one side it is great due to being able to move the saddle in all directions, but from other side there are two things that I do not like so much.

The strings constantly falls out until they tightened, and intonation process is annoying because you need to lose the saddle and to move it manually by your finger, and it is not so precise most of the time.

Nice to hear these side by side Obra - they both sound nice, the green one sounds a touch brighter to me.

I did a cover of Maroon 5's This Love this morning, it's the first one on my new 5 string and it goes right down to the low B. I'm on the lookout for some other tunes that make use of the lower 5th string so please let me know if you have any good suggestions. It's on Instagram:

You can always cover Jamiroquai - Canned Heat on the 5 strings 😊. Not an easy one, but great and tempting.

Would have been great to have had included the Berg neck pup in passive mode on your tone review and compared it to your P basses. Maybe next time eh?

Yes I agree for that one.

Nevertheless I have some videos You describe on my YT channel with Sandberg different sound variations...

But if you were to use the neck pick up alone - guess what - its a split coil humbucker.

The M pickup is a double split coil humbucker.

and absolutely, dependent on which pick up, a J style/arranged pick up can sound very very close to a P, position aside even in its normal configuration.

If you look at a Sandberg Umbo than that is arguably arranged like a standard P

    You are absolutely right.

When I use neck pickup alone in passive mode, it sounds so similar to a Pbass. Most of the time I even not need to bring my P bass to a gig. Sandberg covers it all...... (I bring my P Bass anyway, just cause I like them 😊)

  8. Thank You all for listening to my video. I'm more than happy to hear that it is interesting to someone.

It's also very interesting how people react different to Fender and Sandberg. You can read the reactions on YouTube comments.

    To answer some questions:

@ krispn I played Sandberg in Active mode and used only a humbucker, and I didn't want to make an P sound on it.

@Cuzzie You are totally right. I should name my video 'Showing off tones', it would suit better then 'Comparison'.

Also, I changed stock Glock Sandberg 2 band preamp to a 3 band Darkglass Tone Capsule with two mid eq-s. Now I'm able to make solo humbucker sound as close as it can be to a Stingray, by cutting 500Hz, and  boost 2.8kHz, even with humbucker position as it is. That's the sound I was recorded in my video - not at all Pbass sound, but completely different.

  9. If we ignore the prices that are as they are in Europe right now and return to the topic of colors, I have to admit that I much preferred the previous set of colors.

I had a few favorites like Cruz Teal, Chopper Blue, Charcoal Sparkle and especially an Aqua Sparkle. Unfortunately, I don't like any of the new colors ☹️.

If I pull the trigger on a used one, it would be a Aqua Sparkle 4H.
