Here it is...finally tried the TT5SL.
I did a comparison of two fairly comparable bass guitars in all but one - weight. SL is incredibly light - only 2.7kg (5.95 lbs) UNREAL!

That's the one. There will be a passive tone control as well, always on.
I bought Darkglass Tone capsule directly from Sandberg, but they sent it to me through the dealer. Also they sent me a stacked pot and a wiring diagram (high mids are now tone in passive mode as I requested). Everything fit tight but perfectly inside.
I decided for the Tone Capsule because I previously had a Darkglas Vintage Ultra V2 pedal on which I manage to get the sound I was looking for. Only later I saw that the Tone capsule on board preamp has the same (or almost identical) frequencies. I wanted it inside not in a pedal.

It may be too early to say, but... continuing on my love/hate relationship with my VM4, I think I may have found a new #1 pushing away my trusty Stingray 😲
I had to stop using my Stingray because I carelessly damaged the preamp. It still works fine and I could use it, but the mids module doesn't work well, and until I get a replacement I turned to my VM4 and I'm really liking this beast now. A little bit of a sponge did the trick!
I still plan to put the Tone Capsule in this bass, plus a passive tone control always available, but I'm getting such a great sound from this bass now that I'm not in such a hurry. First, the neon DR strings mellowed out much faster than their otehr coated strings from what I remember, and that was nice although their low output bugs me sometimes. And then I had a gig with the UB40 tribute and I thought about cutting a bit of a sponge from Ikea (the one that's very soft on one side and coarse on the other, seems made for this bass )... what a sound!
It's a completely different sound from my usual with the Stingray, and it's not quite Precision either... it's got a lot of low mids, and the low end is mellowed a bit with the sponge mute, less of the very low end, but still fat and retaining great definition. It's a sound that seems to trigger my synth pedal very nicely too.
So I will definitely repair the Stingray very soon, but I'll be playing the VM4 primarily for a while... I love how light it is too, compared to the Stingray or the Ray35 that I tend to use.
I did exactly what you want to do. I put the Tone Capsule in my TM4 and kept the tone control in passive mode.
Now I'm much happier with the sound, because the two perfect mid controls use a lot more than the original EQ with the treble control, especially when trying to imitate the Stingrtay sound.

Is it worth noting that the Fender tone control doesn't function as a regular tone control on the Performer line, in that it cuts the treble and bass whereas the Sadowsky tone control will only cut the treble?
As I am aware, Fender wrote this on their web site about the tone control on the Performer: ''This uniquely Fender tone system lets you cut treble without losing gain or “muddying” your sound, preserving your carefully shaped tone.''
While making the video I heard the difference, and I can explain it so that the Fender makes the sound less muddy, and Sadowsky keep more bass whet turn the tone pot all the way off.

I have not played Sadowsky Japan, but have an opportunity last week to have new German MetroLine Sadowsky series in my studio, so I made an comparison to Fender Performer PJ.
Here it is.

Here is a link for Bogoworkshop if anyone is interested in California II TM4Thumbrest

My new Gallien Fusion 800 with tube preamp is a killer machine. Would love to try and compare it with Mesa Boogie Subway WD 800.

Hi guys
From the first day when my Sandberg arrived it was difficult for me to get used to the H+S pickup combination regarding thumbrest. It's ok to hold it on a humbucker or single pickup, but the sweetest sound spot for me is somewhere in between, a bit closser to the humbucker.
...so I made a custom 3D printed thumbrest.
Here is how it looks 🙂

Few questions about California Oliver Riedel and Sandberg Configurator (still without answer on TB):
Can Anyone confirm that California Oliver Riedel ''Special Hardcore Aged'' finish implies Thermo Treatment?
There is a little doubt for me regarding Aged levels and Thermo Treatment in the latest configurator.
At the ''old'' configurator Soft and Hardcore aged levels did not include Thermo neither the Vibro treatment.
Hardcore Reserve level included only Thermo, and Masterpiece level included both Thermo and Vibro treatment (next to the visual differences).
At the ''new'' configurator, You can add roasted option for the neck next to the Aged level You first need to choose. So if I choose Hardcore Reserve or Masterpiece (that should include Thermo treatment), why I can also add the ''roasted'' option for the neck (it also raise the price)?
Before I ordered my TM4 Hardcore reserve in 2019 I contacted Sandberg and got the email from Holger, who answered to my question and said that in Thermo treatment (at that time) all the wood for a bass is roasted, Neck, fingerboard and body wood. That puts me in a quandary!
So my questions again:
What does ''Special Hardcore Aged'' means in relation to the California Oliver Riedel?
Does California Oliver Riedel implies Thermo Treatment?
Why ''Roasted'' option is available in configurator even if Hardoce Reserved or Masterpiece is first choosen?
Thank You very much . -

I just had one of Mark Bass combo CMD 121P in my studio and made a comparison video with my GK Fusion combo.
Maybe it will help You decide. It is not in a live gig but maybe it would be helpful.- 2

I had two MB series Combos. The second one I had MB212 combo was fan cooled, and the fan was very loud. Played on low volume im my room I was always unhappy with the very loud fan, and I sold it because of that.
On the other hand, I like GK sound so much to buy a new Fusion series combo. It is absolutely brilliant!
