I have that cap on my 63 jazz and have seen it on lots others ,there is also a brown/ reddish one,but I think for a 57 it should have one made of paper ,like a very small rectangular book

That look awful, really terrible. In fact so bad that I feel I need to take it off you just so you don't have to look at it what is, to be frank, a pretty bad guitar.
There is no charge for this service, I do it as a gesture of goodwill that I extend to anybody with a pre 62 bass. Please, no thanks necessary, just let me know the address and I'll be round shortly. Please pack the bass carefully though.
Thanks
Rob
Thanks Rob,
I left it out for the “dust man” he would not take it….so your offer is greatly appreciated😃
I actually I need this for my POSH gigs .. I tell them if you paid me more money I could afford a new bass 🤣🤣

Well it sits next to a sunburst 64 jazz in the cupboard ,with the same style case so it helps “old people” find the right bass🤣

I’m interested to know how long have you owned them, and whether you have sold any similar examples in the past, other than your 62 which I recall you mentioned having sold.
(BTW, in the unlikely event you decide to sell your 63, I’d be keen to know about it!!)I have owned the jazzes for a very long time, the fiesta being my fav bass …ever…the line for that is very long.
The precisions are a more recent purchase, the 64 Daphne /Sonic blue is in really super fine bass in playability and condition…actually both precisions are really in too good a condition to gig with…the blue one is extremely rare and neg are underway for its sale
In the past I have sold a 58p,59,55 etc…but that was years ago

That might be the case for some, certainly not for me. I’d be interested in the thought of other owners of pre cbs Fenders.
I have a near mint late 56 p with a lovely V neck,and a blue 64 with a C neck,love them both….cannot do a B neck P …have tried 😀 my 63 and 64 jazz have lovely A necks not like the later ones with binding

Of course the story is important. For romantic reasons and because you know what you’re getting.
The alternative is to pay less for something with a sketchy history, which of course is the more common route.
As for the price, this is a 61 - not a 62 or 63. There really can’t be many of these in the UK.
Regarding the case, I seem to recall that imports didn’t come with one, and Arbiter provided their own? Might well be wrong on that, mind.
It seems this was a private import not through a UK wholesaler

My friend bought it,I thought it underpriced,I think it’s a fantastic buy/ bass…..find another for sale

So…In about 2013, I had this in my hands for appraisal via an auction house.
It was an asset liquidation sale - there was a custom shop Marvin strat, and a Hofner 500/1 of some vintage too. A couple of old Wurlitzer jukeboxes and “Americana” stuff like that.
The rest was Rolex’s etc and gaudy expensive furniture.
It was a 61, with gold hardware.
Unsure at the time if it had been one of the refin fiesta reds done by the UK importer…I didn’t know much about gold hardware being an option either.
I offered to buy it for £2k (what I had saved up).
The guy (rightly…) said “I know it’s worth more.”
I later found out that it only fetched £1500 and someone got very lucky…something rings a bell about it being a Fender GBI employee who got it.
Never played anything near it since.
I had a 77p at the time and this had so much more to it.
Talk about the one that got away.
You had one above with gold hardware, not the one for sale at Andy B?

My 64 Daphne blue (Sonic?) 64 Fender Precision- 4

I have a 56 p and the original pickup sounds fat,I have to roll off some bass on the amp compared to my jazz…TI flats on both so it is easy to do a comparison….I have noticed the biggest tone change is strings

Pity you can’t buy a midget but have to go to a super midget if you dont use a tweeter

It actually still has the mute under the back cover, gigged( very gently) yesterday with it,kept the pup cover on as the earth wire sits under it.
