  1. Hey all,

Discontinued Lake Placid Blue fender here with tons of upgrades.

I'm not completely sure what to ask, but can offer the breakdown:

Bass: £450, (+£12 shipping) good price considering the limited availability of Lake Placid Blue!

    Lollipop tuners, Gotoh, £60

EMG GZR Butler pickup and electronics £80

    Fender Hi Mass Bridge £25

    Mint Pickguard £15

Total gets to £640 plus new strings, but with that in mind, £525 makes sense I think? Let me know otherwise.

    Original cream pickguard included.

  2. Here again...!

    £2000

Chatting with a BC friend I realised the dangerous 'I don't neeeed the money... but I don't neeeeed the bass'

Note: it has now been recently set up professionally with the frets levelled and crowned - plays as good on the last fret as the first with even action.

I barely play 5 strings as I do 99% of the job on my 4ers and I think I've achieved peace gear-wise and have enough to record, gig around etc, and want to move the money towards other things (regrettably I have all the expensive passions and a relatively new mortgage!), out of convenience - garden, house work, motorcycles, watches... we'll see.

As it's a discontinued bass, and genuinely nice and mint, no scratches or issues, original pickguard plus pearloid, all case and candy in perfect condition... I won't budge on the asking price - last time this sold in 15 minutes at higher price back in October...

... So get your ducks in before I regret it again and pull it out or anything.

much as this is my favourite bass ever, bills and life have made me downscale my gear. Perspective I guess.

Selling my unicorn (which I managed to find again) first edition of the Musicman Stingray Special 5HH in Cruz Teal.

The bass was bought BRAND NEW and imported from USA in March this year - call it NOS or what you will but the bass is perfectly impeccable. It took me several laps around the world to find it and bring it home (and pay duties on!).

    Notes:

    - Colour is discontinued.

    - This series is on Swamp Ash body - newer ones (the £3.2k+ of today are 'select hardwood' - unspecific). Board is ebony, neck on roasted maple.

    - This bass does NOT have the cutout for controls on the back unlike the new ones (less plastic covers... more wood?)

    - Bass is 4.2kg, I'm picky for weight and can pull off 4hr rehearsals with it comfortably. Offered with absolutely all case and candy.

    - Pearloid pickguard, flat AND round Daddario Chromes / NYXL included, same as dunlop strap locks

    - More than mint condition, not gigged, perfectly adjusted and cleaned with Music Nomad suite.

    - Serial: August 21st, 2019.

Neck is the most comfortable I've had on a 5er, and the 5 position switch blade is delicious - I used to think I did not need HH config but I have been using the single configuration on cleans quite a bit, lots of twang or growl too if you engage both humbuckers! P and J tones are also super easy to achieve with this 18V preamp. Of course dead silent.

I've something arranged and bills so I need the money - no trades and can hear offers - I reserve the right to withdraw or sell it to what I consider to be a good home.

Thank you for drooling my post.

I’d need a box but I can ship, at buyer's cost and risk, but can otherwise meet for sale no more than an hour from Northampton, with an odd chance to go down near London.

    Best,

    Ander.

  3. ah I had one of the first D-Roc 4's that got around here some 2-3 years ago, on the new shape which I defo preferred and that same aquamarine colour.

I loved it and felt like it was a very versatile passive bass! still definitely in the rock / metal thing and didn't see myself playing it in other scenarios.

    Enjoy!

But you can't play a cash investment!

Yes I agree, if you have the funds to 'park' in a vintage instrument, chances are that you won't love or perhaps gain £ when you come to sell. That can't be said for most new instruments, rightly or wrongly. So the real cost is much less for a vintage bass. You can afford to buy/sell your way through several in search of one that works best for you before you write them off entirely, because the good ones hung around.

Touchè! haha you're not wrong mate - having said that I'm just trying to diversify portfolio hahahaha I gave myself the luxury of keeping the Stingray Special and 'going sensible' on the other bits (more a high end bass discussion rather than vintage vs. new)

As I'm shying away from GAS I am looking to my other passions, watches and motorbikes... At least the first one can hold value or increase a bit; we'll see how a classic motorcycle will hold up post 2030 when ICE sales end...

In any case, it seems that if we end up with the good vintage bass / bike / watch we'll end up feeling emotionally attached to it and should hence end up being a family heirloom to pass down to our kids one day... These are crimes of passion after all!

Or use the 2.5k difference to invest in some stocks, you will probably get the money quicker.

I gotta love this - sharp and solid point! We often wind ourselves in with the 'investment value' of basses we (I?) end up selling months later and won't accrue to the full value potential... and even in that case, low-mid risk investing would return more money than that eventually anyway!

  6. Sharing the current and latest ‘sensible’ edition. Good pseudo unintended/intentional colour match in the holly P/J/SR trifecta.

After all the basses I’ve had I can recommend Sire basses!

Despite how many basses I’ve had I can’t have more than 3 basses lol - this is the only number I can manage that warrants I get to play them all!

  7. I agree to an extent but I also didn’t want to take from the merit and pioneering they’ve made as a company in the recent times. Personally think they’ve lost their way in the recent years and some gear calls, and often been disappointed by some of their gear but also done plenty right…!

completely agree that if you’re eager to dig in for the right pedal/gear etc you’ll find much better options too.

for modern distortion this Lusithand is likely my favourite pedal - for a more traditional cut i quite liked Hudson electronics stuff - in between… Fuzzrocious Lil Fella.

If the video can be trusted it’s obviously a lot more useable and versatile than any of the Darkglass clanky machines.

I second this. Plus, much as I like the darkglass tone etc I hate how it eats out bottom. With this pedal you do not lose bass and also the EQ control adds a lot of magic.

  9. I just bought and received a JAM waterfall chorus pedal from Bill.

Great communication and the pedal is in excellent, as new condition with all paperwork and boxing. Top fella to deal with, can totally recommend!

currently my low gain drive! ive also got the Alma upfront! and the Cali 76 bc at the end of my rig.

I want to dig more into the settings of my Alma. I really do like it but I am a compressor noob and just end up setting it all in that ‘11 to 1 o’clock’ safe range to not mess much up. But maybe that’s the beauty of it and I love that it thickens the sound and adds substance to all strings with that velvety sheen to the D-G strings…!

Honestly though I love their compressor and have no doubts itd suit me more than my Hyper Luminal (also excellent though). This drive is probably one i will hold off on, I need to spend a bit of time playing with the Halberd, Capo and Handbox WB100 as there's a huge range i can get from them already without introducing more drive options.

Still think this looks like a pretty solid drive option though, if I wasn't already a bit spoiled for choice I'd be grabbing it.

I think this is a very fair assessment! Capo gets you clean and break up point/hair/ up to distortion.

add a heavy distortion / fuzz and you’re all set - and we have a ton of options!
