So I've just received my Fender Player P Bass (had to order the bass as they didn't have the colour I wanted) and it all sounds good but when you play an open E it sounds fairly weak and hollow. I presume this is just a set up issue, is there anything I can do myself or do I need to take it over to the shop?

If they remain sticky or get worse try this...
...if that doesn’t solve it, or you don’t want to do as the video suggests then do contact Hercules, they usually replace them.
I contacted Hercules to try and get a replacement clip and they sent a replacement stand. Very good service.

All the expensive things I own are specifically listed on my home contents insurance.

Just checked mine this morning and it has the sticky feeling but the plastic doesn't look degraded. I never fold mine down so it should be fine.

I have always found they save all the good bands until the last episode of the series.

So tempting and I have a work project in Bucks to....

So I currently use an early Ashdown MAG 250 head and Trace Elliot 1x15 can. I love it but I no longer do any gigs so get rather annoyed I can't go above a tenth of the volume and the fan is loud.
What's the best small combo to use? I've been looking at the Fender Rumble 40s but any other alternatives?

If I literally hadn't just spent £600 on a new bass this would be mine!

Very cool - I have a Little Bastard and absolutely love it. The Stubby has more versatility thanks to the feedback and gain controls, it’s a great amp
I've always wanted the Little Bastard how is it?

Once you've chucked the two covers in the bin it might be playable by a normal bassist.
-
I've had them since they first came out and never really had a problem with them but the don't fold them down all that often.

I agree with the above. I had the white nylons (50 105)on a bass for a while but took them off because of the low tension ,but I do prefer high tension so you might like them. The one thing with the higher guage is that you might have to widen the nut slots to accommodate them.
Yeah that was my worry as I was going to put it on my new P bass when it arrives. Might just put some normal La Bella flatwounds on if I don't have to mess with the nut.

I would like to try the above strings on my P bass, it comes in two gauges a 50-105 and 60-115 the latter seems to be more common but I've only really used the former on my bass. Anyone have experience with them?
Slightly confused by the millions of variants of La Bellas.

I bought a player series precision about 3 months ago as a back up to my maruszczyk Jake and since I got it I've gigged with it exclusively, excellent basses , light playable great neck no discernible difference between it and any of the American P basses I've had certainly not worth the extra cost for me wouldn't hesitate to buy another
I think I'm going to pull the trigger at the weekend. My local store only has them to order at the moment but means I get one straight from Fender which is nice. Haven't really seen a bad review of them.
Get some nice La Bella's on it.

Play double bass and do what the hell you like because it just sounds like a woofle noise to the audience

Always wanted to try this one.

No consideration in this situation

To be fair they were both dead easy to fix, although that shouldn't be necessary on a new bass.
I'm always a believer is raising these issues with the Manufacturer. Probably fall on deaf ears with Fender but might go on the QA.

Hmm just about to buy a Player series so hope I don't have the same problems.

Tempting!

What I used to do with Rotos is dunk them in some denatured alcohol once they went dead and it gives a bit longer life.

I am about to buy a Buttercream Player P bass and in the not to distant future want to swap the white Pickguard for a black one. Looking on the fender site there isn't an option without having the cutout for truss rod adjustment which the Player doesn't need. Any other suppliers I should look for?

Cool I've got some La Bella's coming as the Fender ones are pretty cruddy so will see.
