    Yeah the XPND

only thing I don’t love about it is not a lot of space underneath.

I have one and I love it, but I agree. I had to raise it a little bit so that my Cioks SOL could fit perfectly without touching the floor.

  2. I currently have 3 wireless systems: Line 6 Relay G30, G10sII and Fender Telepath.

I have been using the G10sII until last February, where I played a couple of gigs where it couldn't connect. Medium place with a lot of people. It was like a huge tent and it was crowded. First song: continuous drop outs. Impossible.
Then I moved to the Fender Telepath and it works good. Just one drop out. It works great.

Last weekend I have a gig where the stage was big. It was again a huge tent with a lot of people. I took my G30 with me. It worked flawlessly. Not even one single drop out (and the rest of my bandmates have IEM working in 2.4). It is like 10 years old and still works.

I am always looking for a wireless that includes a tuner, cheaper than the Shure, but it seems that they are not much reliable because they all work at 2.4. However, Xvive is releasing this month a wireless with tuner that works at 5.8. I will have to try that

I must admit at the start 'more was better' in my eyes (ears), but after trying the MEE pro range, that went from 1 to 4 drivers, I found 3 to be optimal for my use

I must admit that I am now curious about the Mee. I was in their website and their price seems reasonable. Being able to choose the number of drivers and some sort of customization is really cool.

It's a shame Sennheiser have discontinued the IE 400 Pro's. So grab them whilst you can. I'm not sure what they have succeeded them with either.

I wanted to get a replacement right earpiece, as mine fell apart months ago when I changed the tips. I must have pulled it wrong, and the capsule came out of the shell. While I managed to glue it back together, I didn't align it quite right, and it's never felt the same.

Individual replacements were available previously, but I finally got around to ordering one this week, but it seems you can't get them anymore.

I was thinking about getting a second set, but I guess that would be too much money. A friend of mine has used the IE400 for years and never had an issue, so I hope they last.

I don't know if this is the reason why they disscontinued them, but they only have one driver. The friend I mentioned before had a podcast and he talked to Sennheiser and they explained why they use only one driver. But people really look at how many drivers IE have so, maybe they were not selling that much.

I went through all the MEE Pro IEM's, from the 1 to the 4, as well as the 6, and found the 3 to be the best for my use. I liked the 4 driver version but it sounded a bit colder to my ears.

The IE100 and IE400 are very close (I have both at home). The fit is slightly different, with the IE400 just a tiny bit bigger, or shaped slightly differently. Both are very comfortable though. Ive even got the BT adaptor for mine so I can use them as normal headphones. I can wear those for hours without fatigue. The IE400 has a bit more bass and open top end (again, according to what I think I hear), but with a very similar tone signature. I find them not far off from my AKG M-50's as far as low end goes.

I could never get a KZ of any sort to fit in my ears securely, not matter what tips I used (inc Memory foam). They just seem too big and heavy.

That's why I moved on from KZ.

Yesterday I tried the IE400. As you said, they are not the same as IE100 in terms of size and fit. Both are really comfortable, but I found that I prefer the IE100 in that regard. When I have them on, no problem. However, soundwise, the IE400 are excellent. I love them. They sound deeper and with more bass than the IE100. I think I found my favourite IEMs

  6. I have been testing different IEMs these last gigs and I think I can comment some thoughts about them:

Sennheiser IE100 pro. The most comfortable headphones I ever had. Flat response. Everything is there, but not in a spacial way. Nice bass, mids and highs. I can hear my whole band and myself without any problem. Isolation is nice.

KZ ZS10 pro X. They sound terrific. Everything is there, good bass and nice mids. I can hear everything very clearly. My only issue with them is that I am not that comfortable with them. I tried several buds and I cannot feel really comfortable with them. Isolation is nice. All my bandmates use them.

KZ Castor (bass enhanced). This set is what KZ recommends for bass players. They include switches to change the eq. They sound good. However, if you have some bass boost, the bass sounds really artificial. There is sub bass, but it is not very defined. I think they are a little bit more comfortable than the ZS10. Isolation is the same than the ZS10. I prefer the ZS10 overall, but they are really nice headphones.

KZ ZST. Really good headphones. All the frequencies are heard and you can hear all your bandmates. They sound similar to the ZS10, but the ZS10 sound more spacial IMO. Bass is good and defined. Isolation is the same as the other KZ models.

MEE6 pro. Nice and very comfortable. Soundwise are a little bit worse than the Sennheiser or the KZ.

I have ordered the Seinnheiser IE400 pro to see if there is much of a difference.

  7. I had a CV5 that I sold because it weighted 5.1 kg and it was too much for me. Contruction-wise, it was solid and awesome to play. One of the bets B strings I ever played. And the tone was amazing.

  8. I have been thinking about getting this pedal for about two months. I must say now, that it is the best bass overdrive I have ever tried. I love the sounds I can get from it

"I noticed that you've got a Yamaha bass guitar. I bet you dream of having a Fender one day." - random punter at a summer festival gig some years back when we were packing up my BB2024x.

It wasn't the only time I heard that.

I have to say that my BB735 tend to have a certain "wow" effect when I put it out of my case. My Fender basses haven't had that effect in any project I was involved.

The settings on that Cali76 are interesting; can you elaborate a bit on that?

Not really that interesting I think. Ratio at 4:1. A little bit of Dry signal and a little bit of HPF. The HPF is set like that because I usually play 5 string basses, but I also like it in 4 strings. Without it, I find it squeezes too much the B string. Attack/Release I found that spot that I really like. It is true that I also play a lot with the Input. I play a lot of different basses and I find the sweet spot with the input. I use the light as a meter. I play normal until it lights up a little bit. That with the attack and release I think that it colours the tone the way I like it.

  11. I'm always struggling with my interest in pedals and me not wanting to take a big pedalboard... I am very happy with this new pedalboard because it covers all of the projects I play in.

The layout might be a little weird, but I think it is the best I could make.

Line 6 Relay G10s-->Boss TU-3w-->HX Stomp-->Walrus Canvas DI. All powered by Cioks Sol.

I wanted to put the tuner on the left because I always fear that the wireless go crazy (never happened, but better be ready) so I can plug a cable straight to the tuner. I use an external tuner, even though I really like the tuner in the HX, just because I like to have a pedal that mutes not being the HX (in case something happens to the HX). I could have bought a cheaper tuner, but I like the Boss's switch I have to say.

I will include my Disaster Area Midi Baby 3 when I need to switch presets or when I need more footswitches. I will just turn the DI 45 degrees and put the Baby 3. The board is a D'addario XPND so no problem.

I have no problem with the G10sII. However, I got a Fender Telepath that works incredibly good and it works in 5.8 Hz instead of 2.4Hz. I prefer the format of the G10s, but it takes some room. In the future I will probably switch to the famous Shure, so that I can replace also the tuner, but so far so good.

  12. A lot of good options. But if I were you, I'd follow @kwmlondon advice and I would get a Yamaha BBG5. I had a BB605 (which is the same but with single coils) and it had one of the best B string I've ever tried (and I have much much expensive instruments). If you don't like the pickups, you can always change it and with few money, you can get a beast of a bass. I change the preamp and pickups of my BB605 and it was a beast.

As a recommendation of something more "new", I have a BB735 and it is my favourite. But it is PJ.

  13. I bought the V1 because Thomman had a discount on a special edition that I love.

The V2 seems more similar to the amp heads. I used to have the V1 (and I sold it, which I shouldn't have done) and I it sounded great. With the AGS on, it was amazing. However, I could never replicate the same sound with the heads and the Drive knob. And I think this preamp is similar to them. I'll stick to my V1 (when it arrives)

  14. I bought one but it won't arrive until next month.

I must say that I didn't know it was a Solid State Preamp with a Valve Power Amp section. I know that the previous model was, but I thougth this one wasn't. The valve in the preamp is just for overdrive (just like in their OriginAL preamp). However, I heard many Demos on Youtube (mostly about the previous version) and it sounds pretty good. I already think about swapping the valve (I did the same in the Preamp). Dave said it was fine, but that it won't make much of a difference. I expect to get more sweet spots with the Gain, since I prefer mostly clean with some hair. I will report back when I have the amp.

@steviedee how are you enjoying yours?

You could swap the tuner for a aux switch. Tap/tuner plus another stomp switch. Would leave a little gap as well 😉

Yes, and I already have one. However, I prefer having a tuner than the switch since I won't be needing the additional switch. I just prefer to have a tuner... I don't know exactly why hehe

I'd be interested to know if anyone has had any experience with the Pro-DI version of this?

It's said to be the same as it's red counterpart, just without the valve. Looks like a classy bit of kit to me...

    https://ashdownmusic.com/products/ashdown-pro-di-1

I haven't tried the Pro-DI, but reading the specs, it seems the same than the OriginAL without the Valve (as you said).

IMO it is a good move, since the OriginAL is in a price point competing with more loved preamps with much more features. And the valve doesn't help, since it is only used for overdrive (and it is too much overdrive). Don't get me wrong, it sounds great just clean, but for clean, you can now get a much cheaper Pro-DI.

I do miss the VU meter in my OriginAL. The design is beautiful, but I like the VU meter in Ashdown products hehe.

  17. I don't really know if there is love for this pedal anymore, but I still love mine. However, I wanted it to be more clean. I swapped valves again. I tried a 5751. Too much overdrive (coming from a 12AT7). I got myself today a 12AY7. I love it. Now I can get some clean tones or overdriven sounds, but the Drive Gain is useful (before it was almost all the way down always). If you guys feel like experimenting (and prefer a little bit of a cleaner sound) I really recommend you to put a 12AY7. You won't regret it.
