  1. My advice would be to scour your local Mom&Pop music shops or local pawn shops as you never know what you'll turn up. My first bass was a Gibson SG that someone had modified with pickups that were too big for the body! I only paid $50 for it but it got the job done. One of the more pleasant surprises I stumbled across was a hybrid 69/73 P-bass that someone had defiled by staining it a horrid shade of brown after stripping the natural finish and painting the black pickguard white. They also replaced the vintage pickups with Bartolini's. I only paid $350 for that bass and am currently restoring it to its original glory. Don't discount local flea markets or thrift stores, either. There's treasure to be found if you're willing to look.
  2. Hey, all! I'm a self-taught, learn-by-ear bassist from upstate New York. My primary influences are John Entwistle, Roger Waters (writing only!) and Trevor Rabin. I currently have a 1975 Jazz Bass (not original), a hybrid '69 (body)/'73 (neck) P-bass that I'm restoring and one of the first 100 Warwick Buzzard Basses ever produced from back in the early '90's. I don't currently play in a band but I like playing along with live versions of selections from The Wall and The Kids Are Alright. My favorite song to play live is Won't Get Fooled Again, followed by Comfortably Numb. Looking to commune with all my fellow bass enthusiasts!
