Well it`s safe to say I looked a fair bit different back then - actually had some hair for starters! Used to hang around with the guys from Black September & The Rich Rags. Nice to know The Adelphi is still going.

Ha ha.... Rich Rags - named after a clothes shop on Anlaby Road. Desperately trying to remember their names - the names Ian Hunter (not that one) and Jon Stewart spring to mind. Used to know them reasonably well.

Hi Richard, welcome to Basschat. Not from Hull, but used to go there quite often in the late 80s, both to play - at The Adelphi - and to socialise - in Spiders. Great fun was had every time we went up there.

May well have bumped into you Lozz. I was a regular at Spiders in the late 80s. Played the Adelphi last month.

Hello there from nearby Beverley. We've got a few from round these parts on here :)

And I'm one of 'em. Currently living in the Avenues off Prinny Ave. I've been in numerous bands that never did anything, from Carnage in Poland - a precursor to The Red Guitars - to 'Sign Language', 'Agent Orange' (not the more famous band also of that name), and now 'Fear of Bicycles'. It keeps me amused.

  4. Roland Gift from Fine Young Cannibals. This was before he was even widely known in Hull. Oh, and members of The Housemartins before they hit the big time. I was very briefly in a band with Andy Boulder, Trevor Boulder's brother. He didn't have false sideburns disappointingly. :(

  5. Well actually........ this is rather good. Strong voice there Eddie, and I like the string parts as they provide a nice foil to the raucous parts. I'd have a tad more clarity and level in the drums but that's a minor quibble for me. I listened all the way though no problem, and would listen to some more.

Hope the content doesn't give us too much of a glimpse inside your soul. :shok:

Nice. My friend is buying one of those Barefaced cabs. He's getting a 1 kW hartke head to go with it. It will probably sound a hell of a lot better than my crappy old rig lol.

The Hartke will suit it really well, both sonically and also having the power reserve. Good choice. Another amp that would suit really well is a Genz Benz Streamliner, having tried one. Just sublime. B)

Not if you are one of the non-Chinese that has jsut been plowing vast sums into restarting exploitation of non-Chinese rare Earth deposits.

This is the problem with investing in something that has an inherent and significant time lag before it comes on stream. The strategic position will be improved, but yes, there may be a few worried investors out there.

  8. 1. 1975 - Sound City 120 with home made cab with a single 18" speaker in it. To move the cab I had to take the front and back off and move it in three pieces.
    2. 1977 - Changed cab for a SAI 2 x 15 cab
    3. 1978 - H||H VS 115 combo
    4. 1980 - Marshall Super Bass 100 and Fender Dual Showman 2 x 15 cab
    5. 2007 - Eden Nemesis NC115 combo
    6. 2010 - Eden WT550 and Barefaced Big One
    7. 2010 - Changed Big One for a Barefaced Super12T

Keep looking at the Benz Genz Streamliner, but that will have to wait until a replacement job comes up.

House has 7 bedrooms so why the hell we need any more room is more down to the mrs than me.

Ooooo.... there are some lovely big houses in Hessle, next time I pass through I'll listen out for any bass tones wafting from any of them and knock on the door. Get the kettle on.

  10. I like and admire some stuff VW has done, some other stuff I find boring. That reflects just as much on me as him. I nearly said I'd give my right arm for his technique but my right arm is gainfully employed in a variety of tasks, some of which I would sorely miss. Anyway I'd love to have his technique and employ it to my way of thinking and doing things. Same with lots of other bass players I both like and dislike. I appreciate talent - whether I like how it's used is a separate issue.

Jeez Wayne - where's it all gone? Your heating bills will shoot up with all that extra space to heat up - that room must feel like a draughty warehouse. How's the Stingray?
