I do like Genz matched with barefaced. Very nice set up......I need to stop looking at these sorts of threads......makes me gas for a different amp, even though I love mine!!!! aaaarrggghhhh!!!

    Well done, cracking set up!!

The Streamliner 900 and Super 12t are just superb together sonically. They really reinforce each other strengths. I tried WoT's amp with my cab at a bass bash last year, and it put my Eden WT 550 in the shade a bit. Damn. Regretted doing that ever since.

The Barefaced family is growing and will soon dominate the world of bass cabinets - be warned ;) :)

I'm not feeling special any more. :sorry: Ringing Alex to tell him to stop making any more, and to immediately cancel all orders/deliveries.

Currently running the Roscoe > Pedalboard > Genz Streamliner 900 > Big Twin T. BOOM!

I reckon that's about as close as it gets to a sublimely versatile rig. :i-m_so_happy:

  4. Economy of movement and effort. It limits the distance your fingers are going to travel downwards between the strings, making moving the fingers to the next string or pluck quicker and/or easier. When digging in, the attack transient in comparison to the note that follows is much greater, and can lead to........... look, I'll let Mr Willis explain.

I have heard some bass players who really dig in get stunning sounds, so a ramp is definitely not going to work for everyone. I prefer the ramp in place though:

I would highly recommend the Protection Racket 7021 bass case - it's about £60, and is extraordinarily comfortable and keeps your bass incredibly safe as it's a semi hardcase with perfect padding inside. One to check out :)

The 7051 Bass Guitar Standard? This has the the straps for back carrying. Used it for a 15 minute trip and the wide padded straps do the job. I can stand on the case edge or neck and it doesn't collapse under my weight. Strong but light.

  6. I replaced a cream DiMarzio - 80s vintage - with a Wizard 84 on my old Shergold Marathon. This bass has an extra non-stock pickup bunged on near the bridge and the Di Marzio was the first one in there. Massive improvement when the Wizard went in. The DiMarzio sounded brittle and flat in comparison. The Wizard is more up front, produces a taught bass end and cuts through. The Wizard 84 is the darker sounding Jazz type pickup, but placed in the bridge position works really well, adding some meat to the bright tone you'd expect from near the bridge.

  7. As someone who comes at it from completely the other end - i.e. nothing is arranged and the band wholly improvises - I'd start by trying to ignore the theory for now. Concentrate on listening to the overall effect of what you are doing in context, but without analysing and trying to process it first before playing. To start with it's a bit like splashing paint at a canvas. Some occasionally sticks in nice patterns, but an awful lot just drips off to be wasted! Eventually you realise you can use a brush, and not just one. There are all types of brushes.... and paint. Once you can be uninhibited in this way, by all means concentrate on theory to help discipline your output later. Allow your fingers the freedom to roam as they will at first - your brain needs to get used to the idea that you haven't pre-planned anything.

Another angle is to try playing the fewest number of notes that sound harmonically interesting, or dissonantly interesting for that matter. How few notes can you get away with playing, and yet it still makes sense? Build up from there. You will be forced to think about the note choice as you play it, but keeping the number of notes down allows you time to do this.

My problem is the lack of theoretical knowledge or ability to read. :( Maybe we need to mind-meld.

Like the first two. Puts me in mind of Fripp/Eno/Crimson... nice chilled vibe. The third one is a bit too 'modern classical' for my liking, but then I'm not a fan of avant garde stuff generally... unless it's CAN, of course... ;) ...like the piano on it, though. Good clear production on all three. Good work.

You just made my day. :) I'm sure comparisons with Fripp/Eno/Crimson don't stand any real scrutiny, but if there is that sort of vibe I'll accept it and cling on for dear life - no problem  . Thanks Mark.

  9. Hmmmm. Nice timbre to the voice, but she doesn't have that fine control that would turn it into something really special. Is it me or does she sound distinctly amateur for brief flashes - the tuning and pacing just go off somehow. Mind you compared with my bass playing....

  10. I've dug out three garageband ditties that I'd done way back in... well I thought it was 2008, but it was 2007.

    Dodgy link corrected on 'Echo'.
