About 40 if it's Napalm Death
So few? "You Suffer" is 3 seconds long, so they could probably squeeze in about 700 songs if they eke them out a bit.

10-12 with a bit of chat.
Chat? Surely nothing more than "Hello Cleveland!" is needed.

That sounds terrible @CyberBass I hope all comes right for you.

Smoke On The Water, which I've never actually learned properly.
Turns out Roger Glover's bassline is a whole bag of fun to play, although it took me a wee while to figure out what he's doing with those pentatonics behind the solo.
In the end, Songsterr was a great help!
SOTW was one of those songs on the "banned" list in my local music shop years ago, along with Stairway to heaven and Smell's Like Teen Spirit.

The interesting bit is where the guitar riff and bass go out of time with the drums, seen a lot of bands cover the song and put that bit back in time, a lot harder to play it out of time as per recording.
I imagine it must be tricky for a band to play. I read somewhere that they deliberately made the time changes awkward so that other bands would find it hard to cover.

I had a go at Black Dog earlier. Tricky one. That John Paul Jones is a bit good.

I never expected to come across Ronnie Pickering references on a bass guitar forum! 😂

Almost everything I've got is active, and I don't have anything with Jazz wiring, so I can't experiment. Have you tried experimenting with VVT? Everything turned to max, VV turned to max and T to min, neck V to max and bridge V to min and T at max and then min, etc?
More or less. I've noticed that the neck pup is quite a bit lower than the bridge so I might try raising it a fraction.

That sounds like some sort of impedance matching issue which the effects mask by buffering it. Is it a passive bass?
It is. '92 Squier Silver Series Jazz bass

Have you actually got the input switched on? If you look at the circular switch, there's a little guitar icon at the bottom - press that and see if it improves it. See page 12 of the user manual (available at https://tascam.com/downloads/tascam/526/e_gb-10_om_vb2.pdf). That's caught me out once or twice.
Thanks tauzero. I do have the input turned on. I'm beginning to think it is an input issue of some sort, but quite what I don't know. If I apply an effect it is definitely loud enough but when I turn the effect off it's back to a muddy, low volume. I suspect it might be something to do with gain but don't know if that can be adjusted for the clean signal.

I'll probably be in the market for a new practice combo soon too. My 27 year old Carlsbro Viper 30W is doing the same as yours - crackling pots, even cutting out altogether. I've been looking at the Fender Rumble 25 V3 and the Laney Richter RB2 30W, but might even look at the Fender Rumble 15 as I doubt I'll ever be playing outside the bedroom.

I'm not sure if the issue is with the Tascam or my bass. I only got the device yesterday and when I tried it the bass volume is very low, even with the input turned up full or almost full. Playing recorded music sounds fine but when I try to play along with a song I just can't hear my bass. I tried adjusting the balance but it didn't make much difference. does anyone have any ideas?

I've lost gigs because I'm 6'3" overweight and ginger, and stuck out like a sore thumb against their backdrop of cool rock tight jeans and shades. Shorta***es! (I also refuse to wear stereotypical bass player hats).
We're supposed to wear a hat? I knew I was doing something wrong...

Has anyone mentioned Husker Du or Yeah Yeah Yeahs?

The venues you play at have PRS licenses. 3 - 4.2% of gross box office goes to PRS (along with the set list the band performed) and this is then paid out to the songwriters/publishers.
Thanks Cetera. I knew that venues had to have the PRS license but wasn't sure if royalties were paid solely through them.

I saw the Aussie Pink Floyd many years ago. They were excellent and as far as I know actually use a lot of Pink Floyd's old gear.
How do tribute acts work with regards to royalties to the original bands?

On the US side I've got the likes of Blondie, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Velvet Underground, the Stooges
On The UK side I've got Joy Division, Iron Maiden, The Beatles, Buzzcocks, Sisters of Mercy etc
How can I possibly choose one over the other?

Ah well for instance UK has Bolt Thrower, the US has Obituary. Tit for tat really. Iron Maiden Vs Metallica?
I think for most genres there is an equivalent genre overseas of similar influence, with acts carrying similar weight. Both inspiring the next generation artists on either side.
Would we even have had Metallica if we'd never had Iron Maiden?

I've just read through this whole thread and am stunned by these basses.

I'm not 100% sure, but think it was Peggy Sue, followed by Sheena is a Punk Rocker.

It wouldn't be some sort of talk box would it? The sort of thing Peter Frampton, Dave Gilmour or Slash use.
