  1. Hey guys, I've picked up my new bass from Chris and Alex at alpher. Let me start with saying how supremely happy I am with my new instrument (named rose by the missus), and how from design, right the way through to completion the guys ensured I got EXACTLYwhat we discussed and envisaged.
I wanted a supremely growly, passive bass, with ebony or a very rich rosewood top and board as my starting point.
The bass has a maple body with African Blackwood cap over maple body, and a solid Blackwood neck with custom lumo gel "r" at the 12th. This was after the boys showing me a piece of Blackwood, which is like a super dense ebony, and I was sold ....
Wowsers it sings! In true spinal tap fashion you can feel the sustain. It really is like a piano. The boys took on board all my idiosyncrasies and requests and helped my realise the instrument at every step, such as wanting seventies position pups, and the more guitar styled headstock logo arrangement.
Tone wise the Aguilar pups and pre really REALLY push, I wanted the growliest, which this bass does supremely, but the tone variety between the pick ups is huge.
I looked at a few custom luthiers to build this instrument, including shuker, lull and even popped into the sadowsky shop in NYC, but after meeting up with guys,
It was alpher all the way, and I couldn't be happier.
(The missus could, because I'm already planning the next one!!!!)
P.s, as well as getting my dream bass, I got some new friends too:)

  2. Just playing devils here guys, but i counted at least 6 monitors. (the dancers would need them). To think that the monitor engineer wouldn't have vocals routed to the wedges in case of IEM failure would be absurd!

  3. Hey guys,
I am selling my practically new Usa 410 hlf
The story goes with this cab that 10 years ago it went straight from the cardboard box into the flight case on arrival. The flight case is a lid and skids type:) The same week I picked up an endorsement with another company, and so it has literally been used twice, and then has sat ever since. It still has the original hang tag on the towel rail!!!
The flight case is a custom for the hlf the corners and catches are a little tarnished, but work perfectly, but hey, it's a flight case! I'm open to sale or trades, and don't mind trading up with money from me. Most things considered:)
I will sort more pics (particularly of the hang tag;), but if anyone wants anything specific, gimme a shout. Postage is probs gonna be awkward, but not impossible:)

  4. Hey guys, I love the pro steel strings and have used them on most of my basses (after years of Using a particular other brand), and I love the growl I get. The tension is also perfect:)
I have a 7 string 35" scale bass that needs restringing and it's a little tricky trying to put a set together. Would you possibly be able to help me out with where to buy a complete set rather than piecing a set together?
I like regular gauge, and the bass is tuned f# (low) to c (high)
    Cheers guys!

  5. Thanks for the response guys!
I really love the gk sound but seem to have no luck with their stuff., I have an old 2000rb that is one channel, (the other is toast)I bought it like that as a back up to my 2001.
I have the 4x12 which "grumbles" at low volume, it's fine when loud tho,
I also have an mb800 which is noisey
And the biggy.... 2001rb which is what I am really looking at getting sorted.
This thing blew, got repaired, and then blew again after being used twice. It has been through 3 different very highly regarded amp techs since, and they all say it's a pretty complicated/pain to work on. The last tech has spoken to gallien directly to source parts which totalled something like £800. Polar audio quoted me £15 per 15 minutes inspection time just to isolate the fault, then the price of the parts and a higher rate repair and then hefty return shipping, which was also cost prohibitive when you can pick a 2001 up for £500
No one seems to be able to repair this at a rate worth saving the amp and it's a damn tragedy to throw a 2001 in a skip.
    Looking for ideas:)

  6. Had the pleasure of taking "sarah", a 78 jazz off chris the other day. What a perfect gent, even drove it to me to have a noodle!
Excellent comms and a perfect transaction!
Cheers mate, sarah will be played and loved!
