  1. I bought this recently thinking I'd like to get back into playing guitar, but have at practically the same time started a new job and don't have the time to dedicate to it.  I could use the money, so someone on here can grab a bargain - cheapest I've seen for this is £1,500 so I think £900 is fair.

I'd prefer to meet up if possible, and am willing to meet within around 100 miles of Gloucester for a cash or bank transfer transaction

But, I do have a box so can ship to a known basschatter with good feedback, and do paypal transaction.

On to the guitar itself - there's a tiny ding (shown in pics) where I dropped a coin :( otherwise it's in perfect condition.  Plugged in it sounds absolutely wonderful, and acoustically it's obviously not going to sound like a dreadnought but still sounds very nice.  Strung with Ernie Ball Earthwood light 11-52

Satin finish all over, best neck I've ever felt on a guitar, low action with a lovely setup, light weight, no neck dive that I've noticed.  Comes with the original Fender heavily padded gig bag with reinforced bits.

Specs are attached as an image

See pics for condition, please excuse the fingerprints!

Any questions please give me a shout

Pardon me for assuming what’s ‘under the hood’, but I’d wager that your lack of drive to play isn’t primarily due to the instruments you have and don’t have, but by something outside of that, especially given you’re not currently in a band.

That said, if I’m way off the mark, either find another of the bass you’re pining for or head to a bass bash or a well enough stocked shop and see what takes your fancy.

I would agree, but the drive to play disappeared with the bass I sold.  It was a custom build, only one in existence :(

  3. Hey folks :)

I used to have two short scale basses, and since I'm no longer in bands etc I weighed up the pros and cons of each a couple of years ago, and sold one.

Turns out it was the wrong one lol, of course, instant regret.  I tracked it down, unsurprisingly the current owner doesn't want to sell as he loves it so much.  Mixed emotions really, I'm totally gutted but genuinely pleased he's enjoying it so much, and totally understand him not wanting to move it on.

Anyway... since selling it, my drive to play has vanished, and I'm thinking of selling my Warwick short scale (and my guitar) to fund a bass that will inspire me to get back into it, and that's where you lot come in

I like more modern sounding basses so no Höfners, Mustangs, that soft of thing.  Jazz, P/J, MM, active wouldn't hurt but passive isn't a deal breaker.  30-31" scale (I have bad CTS).  I like J bodies, but will consider others.  And I really hate neck dive 😒

Happy to be bombarded with suggestions to check out!  Budget, let's say £1k

They're very commonly available, ebay, any online music shop or PM me - I can send you one.

    Try the suggestions above first.

Also worth mentioning - and I've soldered a few over the years - nothing else solders like a Switchcraft, some are made of such shyte that you end up in tears trying, not saying Harley Benton ones are bad, but they are about the cheapest made basses etc. on the planet, so chances are - - -

Haha definitely sounds like it's worth it then :D

I opened up the control panel last night, and as soon as I moved it away from the bass, I magically got sound!  I think it was the above mentioned issue where it was touching the shielding.  I've moved some stuff around and carefully put it back, and it seems to be ok so far.

I'll keep an eye on it though (ear?) and will get a switchcraft jack if I get any more issues.

    Thanks for your help everyone!

  5. Alright thanks guys!  I'll take a look at it this weekend.  I do have a spare brand new Harley Benton socket (is that a reputable brand for this stuff?) and I'm sure I could borrow a soldering iron from a mate for a day.  I'll watch some youtube tutorials :D

I will try the suggestions first of moving things around in there and seeing what happens too.  I might be able to avoid replacing it, but it doesn't sound likely (pun intended)

    Thanks very much all :)

    Too little information!

    What bass?

Is it mounted on a scratchplate/control plate or through body, top or side and is it a open or enclosed, (barrel), type?

Ah sorry, I wasn't sure how much information I should provide :D

It's a jazz type bass, passive, and it's one of those types with the wonky bit of metal inside (I'm sure you know what I mean!).  I'm guessing that's the open type.

    Mounted on a control plate

  7. Hey all

I'm having an issue with the output jack on one of my basses.  If I plug the cable in fully, no sound at all.  But if I just rest the cable in the socket without pushing it in, it works fine (but it's obviously super loose, so if I move much, no sound!)

I've tested with different cables to make sure.

Does it sound like something I can resolve without replacing the jack?  If so, what sort of things should I try?  I've tried pressured air into the hole, and also wiped the contacts on my shirt in case of dust, but no effect.

I do have a new jack, but am cr@p at soldering, so if I can avoid it, great :D

    Cheers

    Ryan

  8. Hi everyone, thank you for all your replies, much appreciated, it's good to see everyone's point of view.

And apologies for the delay in responding, I've been totally swamped for a few days and haven't been able to get online much.

I think I will try the suggestion of changing the strings - I use D'Addario nickels on all my basses (the ones with rounds anyway), and they are perfect on those, but maybe they don't work for this one.  I'm going to try some steel wounds I think, I've never used those.  I did try flats on this bass but meh... didn't do it for me so I put them back on the P bass.

Any suggestions for some light-ish gauge short scale steel wounds?

If you haven't really ever connected to it then why the hesitation? Is it because you won't get what you paid for it?

More that because it was made to my spec, I feel like I should love it and keep it.  My friend said when I got it "you must keep it forever, never sell it as it's YOURS"

  10. Hey all

Firstly - this isn't a sale post!  If and when I do decide to sell, I'll pay the fee and list it properly 😃

Basically, long story short, I've got this bass that I've had for a long time, it was custom built to my spec, and it's a really great bass to be honest, it does everything it needs to do.

Only one problem - I don't love it.  I don't feel like I've ever really connected with it, even though it's a really good instrument.  It barely gets played 😪

I keep thinking about selling it (I could use the money, it's not like direly in need or anything like that, but I could use it elsewhere) but I get as far as taking photos and then change my mind.

How can I get over this and sell it to someone who will use it?

  11. I bought Gerry’s Squier Mustang.  Easy transaction, great comms, excellent packaging, arrived exactly when he said it would, and I love the bass.  A credit to the forum :) thanks Gerry!

Yeah, way too much latency. Just tried it with my Helix and BT transmitter. Fine for music of course, but not with playing. Could be the type of BT system though. Mines pretty old.

I imagine it would be the same.  My Samsung Galaxy buds just sound so good, it would have been really great to play along using them!  Thanks for checking it out though, appreciated!

Would latency not make this unworkable?

ah well was worth a thought :) thanks chaps

  14. Has anyone managed to use airpods or other Bluetooth headphones with their B-1 four?  I thought about a Bluetooth receiver, but I’m assuming they only receive the signal rather than send one to headphones
