  1. I like to think that Motown was pretty strict in their productions. The Motown Machine was well oiled with session players so Jermaine had no need to be on the bass in studio sessions. Not sure if that changed when he went solo. On 'Lets Get Serious' it could have been him on bass or Nathan Watts, I am not sure. But I have seen videos of him playing and singing that song live.

  2. Interesting points. Just to clarify, I dont have 5k to spare. I have just noted some basses on here and ebay for that amount and was wondering what you would do if you had the money. I would probably buy one and use the remaining cash elsewhere. ;)

  3. To be fair. if you played an electric bass for an acoustic set, it would lose that 'acoustic essence'. I recently watched Rumer doing an acoustic set and her bass player had an upright and an acoustic bass for the set. In terms of the feel he absolutely nailed it (there was a piano and acoustic guitar accompanying)
My 2 cents, try and borrow one off here and see how that works.

  4. I have been playing a 5 for 2 years now, having played a 4 for about 10. I couldnt play without the 4 but needs must and I play a lot of gospel, RnB and soul so the lower notes were needed at some point. I eventually sold the 4 and I feel like I do need to play one now and again to keep the creative juices flowing...
