  1. Stickmen a few weeks ago at the Robin 2. Great show, epic sounds and playing, a couple of King Crimson covers, and culminating in a short conversation with Markus Reuter and Tony Levin. And Stick lessons from Herr Reuter, the first of which is Monday! Very informative gig for me! And I made a new friend. How rare!

  2. This is a good little amp for most rehearsal spaces and small venues.

It tends towards a bassier sound naturally, and I think would do really well for an EUB, but the only style I'd say it's not suitable for would be metal.

Being lightweight and relatively easy to carry is a huge bonus in a decent giggable bass amp.

Standard tone controls, balanced di out, headphone output, practice input. Also has tone print options, which keys you important outside settings and effects. Check out the tc electronic site for full details. Collection preferred or meet up preferred

  3. Playing closer to the bridge will give you more "twang" (as I think of it sometimes) with either pick or fingers. I didn't realise JC used a pick for ages. (I actually think it took seven or eight months before I realised bassists use them aswell!) He also uses chorus and delay in a lot of tunes, thinking of the bass melody in the grudge as an example. As suggested, try boosting the mids (or cutting the bass/treble) on both amp and guitar

Clueless about Nightwish though. Sorry/not sorry about that 😉

  4. Bought an amp from John, found ad on facebook and messaged from there. Great response, effective communication, quickly shipped. The days later one very happy bunny with a good deal on an amp that came exactly as described. Trustworthy, absolutely.

  5. I tried to engage the crowd at a gig once. (Many times but this particular time...) Had a super long lead, and the crowd was a bit far away so I wandered off stage to encourage them to move closer. They literally edged back the closer I got! So...yeah, sometimes I end up looking like a silly billy trying to have presence. Of course, trying so hard can make it obvious you lack something.

You really are a funny old lot. The Fender Precision, and its stable mate, the Jazz, provoked pretty much those same reactions from the staid, fuddy-duddy bass players of the day when they were announced. I don't think many, if any at all, were saying 'Now there's a nice-looking bass'. The terms of reference were very different; folks had the idea that 'bass' meant 'upright double bass'. Now, it seems, 'bass' means 'Fender', and any deviation from the terms of reference seen as 'ugly'. As an object of beauty in its own right, I'd put up very few bass guitars; even very few instruments at all. Bongo, anyone..? Firebird..? Seriously..? Amorphous slabs of painted wood; nothing graphically exciting in any sunburst (maybe, perhaps, a violin finish on a semi-acoustic, if I stretch a bit...). Still, it's healthy, I suppose, to pitch tar and feathers on anyone trying to break the mould, but those wishing for innovation and progress seem hard to please, somehow. Yes, it's ugly. In exactly the same way, and for exactly the same reasons, as most basses are ugly.
You really are a funny old lot.

But there are so many and such good designs about these days, to love or hate. The fact that this isn't splitting opinion (yet, I think it's fugly too!) Might be a pointer that this was a swing and a miss. Somebody somewhere will love it, maybe, but not here!

And there are many, many beautiful instruments. Eye of the beholder!

If I had the money I'd buy this - incredibly good basses using the SimS system which gives 15 variables with the pick ups. You really need to check one out on YT.

Hellzero recommends the Darkglass M900 - by all means try it but I'm not sure whether it will be an amp of choice. I'm a big Trace Elliot fan, there's a 300w head for sale on Gumtree advertised in the "W&W" thread - £100 and all the proceeds go to homeless people. The heads themselves aren't that heavy so using one with Vanderkley or Barefaced cabs will give you a lightweight rig with lots of versatility. Remember that a 300w TE head will be more than plenty for most playing situations.

The Darkglass is out, too much for me! Looks good but now I've finalized my budget (waiting for the last bits of old gear to sell) and being 98% did that the Bareface super twin will totally sort all my cab needs, I'm considering amps around the 4-500 mark. I'm not a Trace Elliot fan at all haha, but they have a strong presence so I might check out some of the newer models. Thanks!

skidder652003 mentioned Enfield & Painy the Aguilar AG700...not sure where you live (Im in Northampton)

I have a Enfield Canon for sale which is very versatile....which you can try with (not for sale) AG700 & Aguilar 112 also a  small FOH PA & Schertler combo I use for small gigs..if that helps...good luck

I really appreciate the offer, but I'm keeping my eye out for 5 stringers, and have also decided against the Aguilar head because I'm going to need headphones to practice, which plenty of other portable amps have. Thanks though right nice of you to offer!

  9. Bass wise, I think what we like differs but nice one for the amp, I'll have a little look see at that!

If I can find that amp to try then that might be a strong contender! Thanks Skybone

  10. Sounds like good advice, thanks. I've depped a few times so get what you mean. I've been looking at the Bareface cabs, they seem like a solid investment but I'd like to try one out. As for basses...I'll be going hunting soon...!

Did Geddy not play some of the vocal lines on his bass while he sang on the earlier Rush stuff. Talking way back in 70's i'm sure i heard him play along with the vocal lines on occasion. Might be wrong but sure some of the Geddy experts will comment soon tho. :D

I wouldn't be surprised but couldn't tell you for sure!
