There’s a 55 Precision project on here which is pretty nice.
Yeah! I proposed him a trade with my American Standard 2011 p-bass but he needs cash. Unfortunately...

The Fender 50's Precison.
If i am gonna take the mexican path, i think that i prefer the Dirnt...

What about the Mike Dirnt pbass? Fat C neck, custom '59 pickups...
-
What about some Limelights (pbasses) I see here?
-
Once again thanks for the comments.
Finally, I see my self selling or trading the American Standard pbass for a Sting pbass or something else with chunky neck.
Any ideas?

These things are always so personal and open to interpretation but in my own experience and having owned a few P-basses, I have found that the old 50's style P basses with the thick necks and maple boards have the fat vintage sound in buckets.
I have my roadworn P strung with flats just for that vibe. (bit like the video posted above)
Exactly! That's why a Sting pbass from Japan sounded "better" than my American Standard

Thanks but I'm looking to sell unless it's perhaps a Jazz bass.
no problem, mate

trade with an American Standard 2011 pbass (60th Anniversary)?

Can't agree about the Thomastiks if you have a heavy playing style (like me).
Thomastiks respond well to a more delicate touch ... they're wasted on me.
LaBella FLs are the best but they're bloody expensive. GHS Baby Boomers or the Lakland branded strings offer a cheaper alternative that's almost as good.
you mean that ones?

Yeah that ugly "Sting" is stiil on my ears. And on my mind. But it's difficult to find one.

Thanks for all the replies, guys!
So, Model P pups (not so expensive as i checked) and flats is a combination i have to try...

This is my take on vintage and fat. Anywhere near what you're aiming for?
Great sound! Is this the mexican??

I am using an ampeg combo and/or an old trace elliot. No pre amp (I need something like Tech 21 VT bass, but no money no honey)
Strings rounds 45-105.
Music style: old school garage punk, let's say something like Radio Birdman, Long Ryders, Wipers etc.
Funny thing: I tried a Sting Precision (Japan 2001) in the last rehearsal and it gave me that vintage 'boom'.

Hi!
I am searching for a vintage-sounding pbass with fat bottom lows and growling mids (I hit hard with my fingers when needed).
I already have an American Standard 2011 (60th Anniversary). Sounds awsome but it's very 'modern' for my taste. Even with the Custom 60s pickups that I fitted it with.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

Is it still for sale?

Well, it sounds great when just using the neck pickup. A little more mellow than my precision.
The bass is still available:).

Very nice!
When using only the neck pick up, how close is it to the pbass sound?
-
Thanks, mate.
The neck is like a JB and the action is very low

Thanks Marc

Fat vintage P-bass sound

I 've tried the mexican 50s p-bass and sounded a little bit muddy in my fingers. I am searching for fat not muddy sound for my garage/punk band.
On the other hand I tried a Squier Dirnt and it was very satisfying. The craftmaship was awful but the sound was OK.
