  1. Ok, so a while back a friend donated what appears to be a Fendfer 4x10 cab to me because his wife said it was going in a skip if he didn't move it. One day he may want it back but for now it's mine. I've been using it for guitar but having recently taken up bass i'm wondering if I can use it as a cab with something like a little TC or ampeg Class D head instead of the Vox Pathfinder I'm currently using. Problem is, I haven't got a clue what it is. I posted on another thread the other day and the obvious answer was take the back off! So today, not being at work I got my tool box out to discover there doesn't appear to be any way to take the back off - the cab has been jointed and glued all way round (built like a tank I might add). I know, I thought. I'll just take a speaker out from the front. Ha! No labels on the speakers, no plate inside the cab, nothing. All there is is a little Fender sticker on the input moulding at the back. So I'm absolutely stumped. I've just powered it up with an old HH 100 guitar amp and put the bass through it and it works absolutely fine at low to medium volume but I wouldn't dared cranking it without knowing what it is. So, anyone recognise it from the photos and care to have a stab at the wattage/ohms? I'm, guessing Fender Frontman 4x10 if it's even a Fender. 2. Hi Guys, I know this is probably a very basic question but I'm new to bass and in my previous guitar playing career have only ever had combo amps. A friend has very kindly donated an old Fender 4x10 cab to me - it's a bit of a monster but you don't look gift monsters in the mouth so I accepted it gratefully. I was thinking of maybe getting a little TC BH250 head to go with it (currently using a little vox pathfinder). Now, there is absolutely nothing on the back to tell me what the rating of the cab is other than a little plate that says Fender L082163. It's a closed cab but I suppose I could take the back off it to see what the speakers are. But what's causing me all sorts of newbie confusion is that there are two jack sockets on the back. Does that mean I need to plug two leads in to power all four speakers and what if the amp head only has one input? In your opinions without knowing any more than I've said do you think the cab would be suitable to run a little bass head through it (I'm learning so it will only be for low level practise). Also, at the moment I've got an old HH IC 100S power amp sitting around. It's a guitar amp, but could I get away with using it short term?
  3. Hi Guys Thanks for accepting me to your group. I'm a 58 year old who played bass (very badly) in a band nearly 40 years ago. Since then I've kept an interest in guitar as well as dipping in and our of other instruments such as piano and saxophone but never really thought to pick up bass again. I suppose the reason being is I only ever played it in a band before out of necessity because we didn't have a bassist and the other guitarist was way better than me. Don't get upset with me but for many years I never really thought of it as an instrument that I could get much out of as a solo instrument just noodling in my music room which is pretty much all I intend to do now - I'm too old to get into bands again (but hey maybe I'm not If I meet enough like minded old codgers out there who want to learn together that might change). But lately I've got to thinking I want a fresh challenge to learn something new and I've always loved bass (Stanley Clarke and Jaco Pastorious were big heroes) and it seems to me there is so much more opportunity to do things with bass these days that didn't exist 40 years ago - bass backing tracks for one but I also like the idea of picking up a bass semi acoustic or even a full acoustic - I don't know, all I know is I find the new journey I'm about to take very exciting. So for all the guys out there who play bass at home who are not in bands, how do you enjoy your bass? I've a ton of other questions I'd like to ask but I'll read through a lot of old posts first because I'm sure most of mine have already been asked. One question I do have though - I'm currently playing on a Stingray copy by Vintage that I picked up a few years ago (for no other reason than it was cheap and I've always liked the look of Stingrays). I'd never really paid much attention to it until now but now that I've started playing it I find the neck to be a real handful (I only have medium sized hands) - Is this a characteristic of proper music man stingrays or just the way Vintage make them - I'm thinking I may swap to a Jazz bass. I promised myself I wouldn't get Bass Guitar GAS by I'm seriously tempted by the Fender Flea Jazz Bass (Not a Flea fan or of roadworn finishes but I do love a shell pink guitar). Chris
