  1. Hi eveyone

I've started playing in a Acoustic punk tribute band and I play my acoustic bass through a di box into the Pa as when I’ve tried playing through an amp it just feedbacks really badly but I haven’t got a monitor so I struggle to hear myself sometimes is there a way that I can add a headphone Jack to the bass and have kind of in ear monitors that way instead of spending hundreds of pounds getting transmitters and receivers? I thought maybe a little op amp circuit a bit like a Vox headphone amp might work but would that ettect the output to the di box?

    Thanks 👍🏻

What does it look like without the scratch plate, before ya drilling the mounting holes?

Yeah I’ve still got to reshape the headstock 👍🏻

  3. Hi been a while since I’ve posted on here but here’s my latest build……..

The body is a scaffold board back and a book matched Sheesham (Indian Rosewood) top reclaimed from an old dining table…….👍🏻

Sounds like it's coming from the bridge? Find out where it's coming from for sure. Does it happen if you play at the first fret? Does it happen if you play the E string at the 5th fret, is it a resonant vibration?

Start with the basic setup. Check the neck relief. Check the strings are wound properly on the tuners so there is good pressure on the nut. Check the string clearance from the nut over the first fret.

    Add pictures of the bridge.

When I hold the guitar up to my ear the buzz is definitely coming from the body end and not the nut end

I did a basic set up when I changed the strings the neck is virtually flat with not a lot of relief

As you’ll see from the pictures the action is very high it’s approx 5mm, the strings are breaking from the nut nicely so I think it must be the bridge?? 5. Hi all

I need some advice please I’ve just pickup an acoustic bass and I’ve got buzzing on the open A and slight buzzing in the open D it sounds like it’s coming from the bridge?

Am I right in thinking that it could be an issue with the string angle being too shallow as it comes over the saddle? The problem is the action is really high so I can’t raise the saddle up any higher! I want to lower the action as well but am struggling to think of any other way to do it other than change the whole neck angle?

    Any advice would be great!!

    Thanks

A photo (or more) with close up of the wiring might help.

Maybe one lug of the tone pot is earthed (or touching the shielding), this would mean it's acting like volume.

That was my initial thought but it’s not touching anywhere

I’ll put some pictures on when I get home later 👍🏻

  7. Hi all

I’m having an issue with my 51 style p bass wiring the volume of the pickup was really low so I changed the pots which sorted out that problem but the tone pot also does the volume I’ve checked the wiring and it’s all correct, I changed the cap just in case and that made no difference either

I think I recall hearing somewhere that it could be an issue with the coil wires on the pickup? Does that sound like it could be the cause? or have I got my wires crossed (sorry bad pun!!!)

Any advice would be great thanks 👍🏻

  8. Thanks everyone for the replies I understand there’s no one size fits all answer I’m really just looking to get something to get me started if you know what I mean then if things carry on then upgrade to something better

I think I’ll look for around the 500w size but my budget is around £200 I’ve seen a few Trace Elliot’s for around that price………👍🏻

  9. Hi

I hope this doesn’t make me sound too stupid but can I wire up any pickups to a 2 band eq preamp harness or do they need to be specifically active pickups

The reason I’m asking is I prefer playing with flats I really don’t like rounds and just wanted to be able to boost the treble a bit to make them sound a bit brighter on a few songs………..👍🏻

Just the thought of using a router cutter that big gives me the shivers, table or no table 😂

    I’ve done it without a table once! That’s was a scary 5mins!! 🫣

It’s not too bad on a table when you do multiple shallow passes

Looks great! How did you find the oak when shaping the neck? I used oak as a fretboard and found it a bit splintery

Cheers mate! I found it wasn’t too bad but I use a modern C shaped router bit in my router table to shape the neck, it took about an 1 1/2 hours to radius the fretboard tho but I suppose that’s no difference to Ebony! 👍🏻

  12. I’ve been trying to find a wiring diagram for a Jazz bass I’m building but can’t seem to find one…..

What I’m trying to do is 1 volume 1 tone with 3 way selector switch but wire it so it’s bridge/both in series/neck?

Could anyone point me in the right direction please TIA ……..👍🏻

  13. Haven’t been on here in a while as I’ve been busy trying to build up my business which is going quite well and getting good feedback from my builds

Heres my latest build is it a P or Jazz bass I don’t really know to be honest??

The body is made from old floor joists and the neck is a scratch built Oak with Oak fretboard from an old chest of drawers

I’m using a Hipshot A style bridge and some modern style jazz pickups……👍🏻
