1. Interesting.

I've just found my scales and weighed some of my basses - all values given include straps, and some of my straps are better/heavier than others, but:

Peavey Millenium AC BXP - 4.0 kg (nylon strap)
Yamaha RBX 170 - 3.9 kg (padded leather strap)
Yamaha TRBX 504 - 3.8 kg (neoprene and suede strap)
Yamaha RBX A2 (that one that's marketed as a really light bass...) - 3.5 kg (nylon strap)
Nanyo SB321 - 3.5 kg (nylon strap)

2. Yours is absolutely stunning. I'd be afraid to use one that looks that good. :)

The SB321MF would be a fretless 4. My understanding is that yours (and mine) is a 320 series, but model SB321, i.e. fretted 4 string.

I'm only going off the model nos. at the bottom of the '96 catalogue, so could well be wrong.

Unfortunately my gold plate is flaking in places, due to underlying corrosion. I'll get more detailed photos up a little later.

3. It's a 95, model SB321 SGR (see through green), if I'm not mistaken.

I played it all day yesterday, so there's every chance it may replace my Yamaha TRB504 as my favourite. I'm sure it's even lighter than the Yamaha.

The only problem is that the gold hardware is tarnished so I'm thinking of buying a re-plating kit off ebay. I do like to dabble and I'm sure I could use the kit for other things as well...

4. Yes, I bought some more strings - no problems at all with the transaction.

I transferred the money straight into his back account, and he sent them anyway... I doubt he'd get very far on £10... :D

I'm not convinced that it is a 310 - it could quite easily be a 100 series with a changed bridge - I don't remember any of mine having "Gotoh" written on the bridge.

I have a fretless 100 series - plays great.

I missed out on your 310. Should I buy your purple one instead? I am looking for something a little more special, though - I don't really like purple.

Unusual serial number. I thought they were all 6 digits with the first 2 digits indicating the year of manufacture. My 3 all are. Also it looks like it has been modded as there are 2 additional screws on the control cavity cover.

I've seen screws in the same positions on others I've been interested in. I'm with you on the serial no. though. It is odd.

7. Did you have to take the neck off to apply the grease? (I've never taken a neck off).

Anyway, I've sorted mine now. There were a few more creaks but they were decreasing as I went on. All set up - now it's time to play! :D

Edit: I have other Yamahas, and never experienced this problem, but I suppose the plastic RBX A2 is a bit "speshul". lol

8. Update:

Nasty big crack noise - but I think I've got it moving. Followed by another big crack noise, followed by a slightly better crack noise.

I'm just going to give it a little more...

Edit:
Yep - got much better the more I adjusted it. Glad I was brave. :D

On to string height...

9. I'm trying to lift the action on a Yamaha RBX A2, because although it's easy to play the fret buzz is doing my nut in. The neck seems really straight.

I've tried to loosen the truss rod - but it just feels "springy" - in that the rotation I think I've put into the adjuster, just moves back when I release pressure.

I've tried tightening it, in an attempt to free it off, but this springy feeling happens in both directions, probably after about a sixteenth of a turn, if I'm being optimistic.

Any advice on how to proceed, oh, learned ones?

Not sure I'd go with the number plate screw covers for covering the screw holes, but damn, that would make an ideal single screw thumbrest. I only really need something small to perch my thumb on, and it naturally goes to roughly where one of the pickguard screws are. Thanks for posting that.

If you wanted to make it higher, you could use a longer screw and a spacer:

:D

11. I've just thought - number plate screw covers?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/231521080196?chn=ps&dispItem=1&adgroupid=43333907642&rlsatarget=pla-300624029665&abcId=1088846&adtype=pla&merchantid=9861194&poi=&googleloc=1007230&device=c&campaignid=805983114&crdt=0

Screw on and clip the cap over?

12. Something like this:

I don't know how small they go.

You've already mentioned these:
http://www.diy.com/departments/bq-cover-caps-w8mm-l5mm-pack-of-250/37707_BQ.prd?ecamp=Seapla&ppc_type=shopping&ds_kids=92700020305867213&gclid=CjwKEAjwjunJBRDzl6iCpoKS4G0SJACJAx-Vb4bT9pnIpbD3tERA7R_NIhJE1c_HCV6lSMlmWZQ-dRoC_A7w_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds.ds&dclid=CMHF5ITUsdQCFXME0wodxyoOSg

I think I'd try the screw caps.

To be honest, I'm fairly OCD, but I have open screw holes in my CSL bass pickguard, and even I don't notice them.
