I set up a Twitter account back in 2007 or so but barely used it: I soon realised I was getting nothing out of it. However, the current brouhaha about Twitter got me thinking about what it was for, and I see a folks such as Steve Lawson, Neil Gaiman and Stephen Fry trying out Mastodon, so I'm giving that a go. Anyone else? I'm just starting, but I think it needs more Bass. I've added my own Mastodon handle to my signature. @[email protected]

D'Addario strings have clarified on Twitter that it is pronounced Duh-Dairy-Oh. Who knew?!

I used to live in South Africa, so I know how pronounce a name like Charlize Theron (the actress). But Charlize herself has had to change how she pronounces it in Hollywood: she says "the-ron" in interviews, when it's more like "Tron" in her home country (as she says here).

Moping at home after eye surgery last Saturday. Right retina tore & detached, so a surgeon sucked out all the goo, spot-welded the tears with a laser, then pumped up my eye with hexafluoroethane, a greenhouse gas. So that’s me on one eye for the next few weeks at least. I’ve even got the eyepatch. (Arrrr.)

I’ve got the bubble of hexafluoroethane, and have to do some “posturing” including hours on my face, but not as much of that due to the locations of the tears in my retina. I had them along the edges, while a detachment in the centre is harder to flatten and would explain having to spend weeks face down.

Defretting an old bass while working from home. Work/life balance. 😎

I’m actually pondering this topic at the moment. It’s a rosewood fretboard and I want to insert something thin in a slightly lighter colour, then dark wood filler around that. I’m looking for suitable material on the cheap I.e. not looking to buy wood just for that. I’ll even consider plastic. Then I’ll try a cyanoacrylate coating.
