The only separate pre/power rig I've ever had was a Trace GP12SMX pre into a SoundTech PS802 1U 800w power amp. The Trace SMX is still my favourite preamp of all time.

Talking of DIY gear... has anyone ever had a go at building the Kreuzer JFET bass preamp? I believe @orangepeelneil had a project build one about a million years ago.

I did that, too, but not the entire Kreuzer thingy. I´ve been using the three transistor frontend without EQ and added a 3 band swinging input EQ based on the API553 circuit. It serves me well up to today. I´ve tailored the EQ frequencies to match with my Wal fretless.

  2. Rush was my bass bible for quite some time. Geddy´s playing is so unusual, inventive, full of character and unusual ideas. Very refreshing. Many hyped bassplayers have less to say than Geddy.

Sorry, still a fanboy after 40 years.

  3. I ran into a metallic green Gibson Thunderbird IV back in the 90s. It was from 1966 with a custom colour. That´s the only bass I regret selling. It paid me a Wal Mk3 fretless 6 String. Later on I traded the Wal for another Wal which I traded for another Wal which I still own. This final Mk2 5string is my favorite fretless ever. So the Thunderbird sale somehow came to a happy end. But I still miss it.

  4. I had an open air gig at Christmas and right in the middle of soundcheck my TE GP12 SMX head died on me. Luckily it was just 10 minutes from home so I was heading back to grab the next amp. This time I took the larger TE AH600SMX (great to have enough amps...). I played the show and after the encore I left the stage just to hear some ugly noises coming out of my rig and the next amp died. I have no clue what happened there. Most likely the mains supply was flawed in some ways. Anyway, that was an expensive gig....

  5. Thanks, mate. All recordings were tracked digitally, no tape used. I have two 1/4" tape decks in my room, but they are only used in my soundengineering classes to show our students a bit of history. Most musicians have no interest in the extra money to have tape between the mix and the digital master. Even more so my 2" 24 track is collecting dust in the basement and has not been switched on in 15 years. Noone is interested in that process anymore, at least not over here.

  6. Hi group

I haven´t posted here since years. Life was rough in the past and left me not much energy for hanging out. But things are getting better so I thought I should post a few tracks I played on and recorded in the last few years. Enjoy!
